Tommy Dorfman Appears to Announce Split from Wife Elise

Tommy Dorfman hinted at a change in her relationship status.

The 13 Reasons Why actress, 32, shared a 2024 recap on Sunday, Dec. 29, where she seemingly revealed she is no longer with her wife, Elise.

In an Instagram post, Dorfman shared 20 images, each paired with a caption to sum up her year, and the first one hinted at a breakup. “1: heartbreak feels good in a place like this (i wrote this entirely original line),” she wrote alongside a photo of herself lying in a bathtub.

She also shared an image of actress Annabelle Dexter-Jones, whom she credited for having “kept me breathing and emotionally sober after one of the hardest weeks of my life.” Yet, she didn’t say what made it so difficult.

In slide 12, Dorfman snapped a sweet pic of her dog, explaining that she was living alone. “fiona loves her new home and, while it’s just the two of us now, i think she’s managing better than i,” she wrote.

Not much is known about Dorfman’s most recent relationship but earlier this year, the Love, Victor actress revealed on social media and in Vogue that she had gotten married to a woman named Elise in 2023. At the time, they had been together for nearly three years.

"I married my best friend and didn’t tell anyone except @hunterabrams who came and photographed us towards the end of last year. we bought our own dresses @doverstreetmarketnewyork where i used to work before acting, and it was perfect. also thank you @liamnhess and @guiducci ♡," she wrote in an Instagram post in May.

In her essay for Vogue, Dorfman shared that she met Elise, who is a private person, on the dating app Hinge in 2021. She also said that they decided to make things more official soon after meeting.

"We got engaged two months into dating," she wrote at the time. "To our credit, we waited a full 12 months before moving in together, so you can’t say we U-Hauled (though one might argue taking in a Great Dane puppy at our six-month mark was a smidge irresponsible). That’s the thing about falling in love though; your responsibility barometer isn’t always where it should be. Love, for us, required that nauseating combination of naiveté, delusion and fate."

Never wanting a big wedding, Dorfman explained that she and Elise each bought their "Folklore-coded" dresses off the rack during a shopping trip to Dover Street Market.

"She fell in love with a Cecile Bahnsen set, and I, a Simone Rocha number. Off the rack, no tailoring, just right," the actress wrote, going on to detail the fall elopement, saying the two were "sitting perched above the shoreline in Malibu, Elise and I joked about same-day marriages."

After a quick Google search, they discovered California offered same-day wedding services and confidential marriage records, leading to them tying the knot before heading to a concert later in the evening.

Before her relationship with Elise, Dorfman was married to Peter Zurkuhlen. The pair had been married since 2016, and Zurkuhlen filed for divorce from Dorfman in early 2022, six months after she announced her transition in a July 2021 conversation with Time.

Dorfman later revealed that the pair were better off as friends, adding that she decided to date women following the split.

"I knew I was interested in women in a way that I hadn't really been aware of since high school," she said. "I had this unresolved, unexplored thing. I was like, 'This is the year that I'm gonna go on some dates with girls and feel that out again, and not feel ashamed about it.'"
