The title of Tom Brady and Snoop Dogg’s new Super Bowl commercial, “No Reason to Hate,” is turning out to be a bit ironic.

After the PSA from the famous duo made its debut during the second quarter of Sunday’s Big Game, social media flooded with people cringing at and criticizing the A-list earnestness and perceived hypocrisy of the, perhaps, well-intentioned ad.

The spot, for billionaire Robert Kraft’s Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS), features the polarizing NFL veteran and the rapper-turned-family-friendly-celebrity in a stare-off, trading barbs in tight close-ups: “I hate you because we’re from different neighborhoods.” “I hate you because you look different.” “I hate you because I don’t understand you.”

The Battle of Innocuous Insults culminates with Snoop’s moral-of-the-story punctuation: “Man, I hate that things are so bad that we have to do a commercial about it.”

On that, it seems, a large number of Super Bowl viewers agree.

“This Tom Brady [and] Snoop Dogg commercial [is] so awkward,” posted one X user, teeing off what seemed to be the resounding sentiment.

A sampling of other reactions: “Shout out to the Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady commercial. I hated it so much that I forgot to hate all of you guys.” “That Snoop Dogg Tom Brady commercial was the funniest commercial and it was supposed to be serious.” “Was 99% sure we were going to see Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady kiss in that commercial.”

Then there’s the odd politics of it all. “Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady (both Trump supporters) in an ad condemning hate is quite rich,” one user posted. “NO WAYYYYYYYYYY they got MAGA Tom Brady and MAGA Snoop Dogg doing a ‘stand up to hate’ commercial WHILE they also have the biggest (rightful) hater alive doing the half time show,” wrote another.

Snoop Dogg was criticized after performing at Trump’s Crypto Ball Inauguration ceremony last month. Meanwhile, Brady has remained relatively low-profile in the political spotlight, however in a 2015 interview he said, “Donald is a good friend of mine. I have known him for a long time. I support all my friends. That is what I have to say. He’s a good friend of mine. He’s always been so supportive of me.”

The backlash only continued from there:
