Timothée Chalamet All But Names ‘Smelliest Actor’ He’s Worked With

Timothée Chalamet dropped several hints about the “smelliest actor” he’s ever worked with in a new interview.

During a sit-down with his A Complete Unknown costar Edward Norton on BBC Radio 1 Thursday, the actors were given questions to answer from kids. One 5-year-old asked Chalamet to identify the “smelliest” actor he’s ever worked with. Chalamet said he wouldn’t “name” the person, he did give several hints that seemed to indicate one actor in particular.

He originally looked to Norton to answer the question, but Norton suggested Chalamet was at least one of the smelliest he’s worked with: “Let’s just say Timothée went full method on Bob Dylan.” Chalamet didn’t deny his own on-set smelliness as he ultimately decided to answer the question honestly.

“I’m not gonna say any names because that would just be mean,” Chalamet said, “but I did work on a Western years ago and somebody was ‘in character’ the whole time and it was quite something on set, that waft coming in.”

“They just weren’t washing. And the nails,” Chalamet continued, grimacing. Norton seemed to try to throw the guesses off track by mentioning Casey Affleck, as Chalamet appeared alongside him in Interstellar—which is notably, not a Western film.

“[Casey Affleck] goes there,” Norton prodded.

But Chalamet clarified, “It wasn’t Casey” before going on to describe the unnamed actor’s stench. “I was there for two months but they were really committed.”

Though fans with access to Google or IMDb would likely be able to piece together what Western film he worked on within that specified timeframe, Chalamet still insisted he wouldn’t divulge “too many descriptive details” so he doesn’t “give it away.”

The most surprising thing about the actor’s alleged smelliness to Chalamet was that he didn’t repel his significant other with the odor. “The gentleman’s wife came and she was—they were in love, and she didn’t care,” Chalamet recalled.

Chalamet has only been in one western, the 2017 Scott Cooper film Hostiles. That film notably starred Christian Bale, who is married to former model Sibi Blažić, and is definitely known for putting all of himself into his roles.

Jesse Plemons, who also appears in that film with Chalamet, was dating Kirsten Dunst at the time of filming but the pair did not get married until the summer of 2022.
