Timothée Chalamet Bob Dylan Film ‘A Complete Unknown’ Holds No. 1 in U.K. and Ireland as ‘Companion’ Lands Strong Debut

Disney’s “A Complete Unknown” continued its reign atop the U.K. and Ireland box office, bringing in £1.2 million ($1.5 million) in its third weekend and pushing its total to £8.3 million ($10.3 million), according to numbers from Comscore. The Bob Dylan biopic, starring Timothée Chalamet, has demonstrated strong staying power, maintaining its grip on the top spot despite competition from new releases.

Holding steady at No. 2, Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” roared to another $1.3 million in its seventh frame, bringing its cumulative gross to $36.4 million. Warner Bros.’ “Companion” debuted at No. 3 with a solid $915,609.

Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” secured fourth place with $877,857 and is now touching $30 million in the territory. Universal’s awards season favorite “The Brutalist” stayed at No. 5 in its second weekend, adding $753,520 to its total, which now stands at $2.1 million.

The event cinema release of Universal’s “Les Miserables: The Staged Concert” was at No. 6 with $680,938. Lionsgate U.K.’s “Flight Risk” dropped to seventh, earning $558,790 in its second weekend. The thriller has now grossed $2.1 million overall.

Disney’s “Moana 2” continued its long box office journey, placing at No. 8 with $506,286 in its 10th week. The animated sequel has now amassed $51.3 million, solidifying its place as one of the winter’s biggest family hits.

Studiocanal’s “Hard Truths” debuted at No. 9 with $406,990 and rounding out the top 10, Universal’s “Nosferatu” earned $388,937 in its fifth week, bringing its total to $15.5 million.

The U.K. and Ireland box office is set for another diverse lineup of releases this week. Wednesday, Feb. 5 sees Trafalgar Releasing bringing two major event cinema titles to audiences. “Macbeth: David Tennant And Cush Jumbo” presents a cinematic recording of the highly acclaimed stage production, offering Shakespeare enthusiasts a chance to witness the adaptation on the big screen. Meanwhile, “IU Concert: The Winning” gives K-pop fans a front-row seat to the latest live performance from IU, one of South Korea’s most celebrated pop icons.

Thursday, Feb. 6 welcomes the release of Paramount’s Munich Olympics thriller “September 5,” directed by Tim Fehlbaum. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro and Ben Chaplin, the film is opening in over 300 locations, making it one of the week’s wider releases. Also debuting is “Carmen – Paris Opera 2025,” distributed by Pathé Live, offering opera fans a visual and musical experience from the world-renowned Paris Opera House.

A packed Friday, Feb. 7 lineup kicks off with Universal Pictures’ “Dog Man,” a family-friendly adventure that promises to entertain younger audiences. Also from Universal comes action-comedy “Love Hurts,” featuring Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose. Lionsgate UK brings “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” a politically charged drama from exiled Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof. Curzon offers “The Fire Inside,” the story of Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan who trained to become the first woman in her country’s history to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport.

Mubi releases “Bring Them Down,” a thriller directed by Christopher Andrews and starring Barry Keoghan, Christopher Abbott and Colm Meaney. The film will open in over 100 locations. Sony Pictures releases “Becoming Led Zeppelin,” a documentary that chronicles the rise of one of rock’s most legendary bands, featuring rare footage and insights into the band’s history.

From Bollywood, Zee Studios International introduces “Loveyapa,” the Hindi-language remake of Tamil-language smash hit “Love Today” (2022). Yash Raj Films presents Malayalam-language family drama “Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal,” while DJ Tech LTD releases two films, Tamil and Telugu language bilingual mystery thriller “Eleven” and Tamil-language coming-of-age romantic comedy “Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam” from Dhanush.

BFI Distribution re-releases “Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles,” Chantal Akerman’s seminal film, in select locations. Widely regarded as one of the most important films of the 20th century, this re-release gives cinephiles a chance to experience its slow-burning intensity on the big screen. Meanwhile, Park Circus offers a restored version of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” in 4K, giving audiences a chance to revisit Michel Gondry’s visually inventive and emotionally profound sci-fi romance starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.
