Timothée Chalamet Accepts Award at Santa Barbara Film Fest as He Jokes About His Acting Range: 'Wonka to Bob Dylan'
The star of the Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown' earned the fest's inaugural Arlington Artist of the Year Award on Tuesday, Feb. 11

For his work leading the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, the two-time Oscar nominee received this year’s Arlington Artist of the Year Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Tuesday, Feb. 11, presented in part by DAOU Vineyards.
During a moderated conversation with his Dune costar Josh Brolin onstage at the Arlington Theatre, Chalamet, 29, reflected on his acting range — with a little self-deprecating humor.
"That was the trippiest montage," the actor told Brolin, 57, after emerging onstage following a collection of his movie clips that was shown to the audience.
"Wonka to Bob Dylan. Really?" Chalamet joked.

"I admire Bob Dylan [and] these great lyricists [and] artists that generate the work," he said. "Maybe one day I'll generate the work. Maybe one day I'll write something great."
From director and co-writer James Mangold, A Complete Unknown depicts Dylan bursting onto the folk-music scene in 1960s New York, with Edward Norton playing Pete Seeger and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez.
Chalamet, Norton, 55, Barbaro, 34, and Mangold, 61, are among the eight Academy Award nominations for A Complete Unknown. Notably, Chalamet also leads another Best Picture contender this year: Dune: Part Two.
This year also marks the SBIFF’s inaugural Arlington Artist of the Year Award. Per the festival's website, the honor is “given to an artist who is greatly admired and who has demonstrated an incomparable commitment to film and its craft.”

Earlier in the festival’s run, which kicked off Feb. 4, Angelina Jolie received this year's Maltin Modern Master Award, and Zoe Saldaña earned the American Riviera Award.
Colman Domingo took home the Montecito Award, while eight stars won Virtuosos Awards: Barbaro, Ariana Grande, Clarence Maclin, Fernanda Torres, John Magaro, Mikey Madison, Sebastian Stan and Selena Gomez.
At the 2025 Oscars ceremony, to be held March 2, Chalamet is in contention for Best Actor alongside Adrien Brody for The Brutalist; Domingo, 55, for Sing Sing; Ralph Fiennes for Conclave and Stan, 42, for The Apprentice.
Among Chalamet's upcoming projects is Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, costarring Gwyneth Paltrow.
