TikToker's 'mind-blowing' window blinds discovery shocks

Another day, another seemingly mundane fact goes viral on TikTok—and this one’s a goody! Have you ever wondered why your window blinds have the functionality to swivel both ways? As it turns out, it's not just for show.

UK TikToker @djlostone recently dropped a game-changing truth bomb about window blinds—of all things—and it's got people scratching their heads wondering, "Why didn't I think of that?"

With a whopping 1.9 million followers to educate, @djlostone captioned his revelation video with the words, "OMG how did I not know this?" And let's just say, none of us did either!

Turns out, there's an actual scientific reason behind those aluminium blinds with shutters that can tilt both upwards and downwards, and it's likely to change how you use them depending on what season it is.

Taking to social media, @djlostone dropped his hack, revealing that his mind was utterly blown on uncovering the little-known trick.

"During the summertime, you're supposed to move it up... that is so that it can direct the warm light from the sun up, causing a room to be up to eight degrees cooler," explained the content creator.

To clear up any confusion, he elaborated on what he meant by 'turning the blinds up': "the rounded part of the blinds need to be up."

Putting his newfound wisdom to the test, he demonstrated the manoeuvre in a room in his own house he said was typically very hot, and turned the shutters to face in an upward direction. Lo and behold, by the time he returned, he said the temperature had dropped by a solid eight degrees, leaving him—and viewers—astonished by the quick and practical trick.

Since being posted, the video has amassed a whopping 144,500 likes and a flood of enlightening comments from newfound fans. One commenter expressed, "I learn so much here," while another enthusiastically vowed, "Imma try it."

Observant viewers also pointed out that this technique helps keep the room darker, with some mentioning that this method also serves to deter unwanted people sneaking a look into your living space.

"I use them like that anyways so it's harder to peek inside," one user admitted, with another agreeing, "I keep 'em that way because it prevents peeping toms too!!"

A third chimed in, "Putting em up also helps with security vigilance. Allows you to see out but not in."
