The 55-year-old decided to rewrite history and apologise for the previous letter he sent his estranged sister, where he called her a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman”.
“Dear Meghan and Harry,” Thomas began as he read the new letter out loud in the Big Brother diary room.
“The first thing I want to say to both to you is that I am sorry from the bottom of my heart for the awful mean letter that I wrote to you prior to your wedding. And I want both of you to know it did not come from the real person that I am, but came from a very dark and hurt part of my heart.
“I am not a mean person at all, and I have more love inside me to give than anything.”
Thomas went on to say that the public letter he wrote before Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018 was because he was “hurt and confused”.
“I know that it was very immature and wrong and I truly regret it,” he continued, adding that becoming a public figure overnight was “very stressful”.
“I wish I could turn back the clock and do it all over knowing what I know now. I would never have tried to communicate any of my feelings in the media. I feel like a complete ass for what I have done and I am truly sorry for that.”
Thomas ended his letter saying that Meghan will always be his little sister, and he “couldn’t be more proud” of her and her new family,
“The last several years of my life I have grown and learned a lot more of myself, and I must say that what I did to you with that letter is quite possibly the biggest mistake of my life,” he wrote.
“I truly hope you and Harry can find it in your hearts somehow to accept my sincere apology, because this is the real Tom Markle Jr. I truly love you guys and I want you to know that about me. I wish you Meghan, and Harry, Archie and Lili, the happiest, most loving life possible.”
Immediately after writing the letter, Thomas remarked that it felt like “a huge weight” had been lifted off of his shoulders and he has “grown exponentially” since arriving at the Big Brother VIP hotel.
Fans online were divided in their feelings for Thomas’ letter, with some people calling his actions “lovely”.
“Thomas’ new letter to Meghan and Harry was really nice! I hope Meghan gets it. Maybe they can mend fences,” one person wrote.
“Am I… Feeling sympathy for Thomas Markle?” another tweeted, while someone else said, “I honestly don't think Thomas is that bad of a guy at all.”
“Not condoning Thomas’s behaviour but you can tell his letter came from a place of anger, sadness and venom. Sad he lost his sister over his public rants,” a fourth shared.
Others were less forgiving for his previous actions towards his sister Meghan, saying that the new letter is “too little, too late”.
“I hope she never sees or reads it. He doesn’t deserve the time of day,” one viewer commented.
“This attempt to try to paint Thomas Markle Jr out as a good man who ‘just loves and misses his sister’ doesn’t work when he spends all his time in the house absolutely trashing her,” a different user remarked.
“This is pretty low for Big Brother VIP to get Tom to write a letter to Meghan and Harry for ratings,” another added.
