Big Brother VIP officially kicked off with a bang on Monday night with stars including Caitlyn Jenner, Thomas Markle Jr and Jessika Power arriving on the red carpet.
While the 12 celebrities each received a five-star welcome to the luxury hotel, the rumoured salaries for this year’s contestants have recently leaked online, proving a rather large pay disparity between the Australian and American housemates.
The large fee has seemingly paid off for Channel Seven, with the former Olympian making headlines around the world after dropping bombshell after bombshell in the show’s first episode.
As well as shock revelations about her transition and the OJ Simpson trial - “Obviously he did it, and he got away with it” - Caitlyn opened up to her co-stars and shared private details about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding in 2014.
Omarosa Manigault Newman, who was the former political aide to former US President Donald Trump, reportedly earned $450,000 for her appearance on the show.
Rounding out the US stars competing this season is Meghan Markle’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, who is said to have been paid $200,000.
The famous ‘Big Brother’ recently discussed his salary on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, saying that he couldn’t confirm the exact figure but it was “not quite” the rumoured amount.
“Just having the experience of going down to Australia and seeing an awesome, beautiful country, that was worth more than anything to me,” he said.
Meanwhile, the salaries for the Australian contestants appearing on the Channel Seven series are rumoured to be much lower.
Married At First Sight star Jessika Power and model Imogen Anthony are both said to have taken home around $20,000 from the show, although Jessika has since disputed the claims.
Chatting with Triple M Sydney’s Moonman in the Morning on Tuesday, the 30-year-old said she was paid “a lot more” than what she saw being reported in the media.
“I was thinking, I got paid way more than that,” she laughed, before being asked if her paycheck was close to $150,000.
“It’s up there, it’s up there,” she replied.
While the Big Brother Hotel will see 12 celebrities check in this season, only one will win the show and take home $100,000 for their chosen charity.
