'There's clearly been some confrontation between Meghan and Kate', says royal author

Rumours of a rift between the Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge began to circulate at the end of last year.

There were reports that Kate was ‘left in tears’ during a bridesmaid fitting for Princess Charlotte in the lead-up to Meghan and Harry’s May 2018 wedding.

Kate Middleton, 37, had just given birth to Prince Louis at the time and was said to be “feeling quite emotional”, a source said at the time.

The announcement, made in November 2018, that Harry and Meghan are moving to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor did little to dispel the rumours of a row between them and the Cambridges.

William and Harry’s plans to “split” Kensington Palace into two separate households also added to the narrative.

There has been no response from the palace as to whether there’s any truth about the rumours, however royal editor and author Robert Jobson, who has spent over 30 years covering the royal family, believes that there has been some confrontation between Meghan and Kate.

“Whether or not there were reports Kate cried over the way her daughter, I don’t know if that’s true or not, but there’s clearly been some confrontation,” he told Yahoo UK‘s The Royal Box.

“I think that most of the stories that have been written have probably been true or Kensington Palace would have come down on them with a ton of bricks, so I think most of it’s probably true.”

There were also reports there was a heated exchange when Meghan, 37, couldn’t have her first choice of tiara in the run-up to her wedding.

The former actress wanted to wear a headpiece with emeralds, but there were concerns it came from Russia.

She ended up wearing Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara on the day.

It was also claimed in Jobson’s book Charles at Seventy that Harry yelled “what Meghan wants, she gets” at palace staff, following the alleged tiara row.

That apparently lead the Queen to warn her grandson about his behaviour.

Jobson says: “I don’t believe that Meghan was being difficult when she picked out the tiara, I think probably Harry was being overly defensive and overly protective.”
