The Wiggles' Murray Cook's emotional confession about his kids

The Red Wiggle opened up about the tougher times in the band and the pressure it put on his family.

The Wiggles' star Murray Cook has opened up about some of the tougher times being in the band in their new documentary Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles.

In the doco, Murray talked about some of the more heart-wrenching moments of balancing the commitments of the band with family life, saying he struggled to leave his two children when going on tour.

Known as the Red Wiggle, Murray has two children, daughter Georgia Munro-Cook and son Hamish Cook.

He has now opened up about the impact The Wiggles' relentless touring schedule had on his kids, saying his son Hamish took it the hardest when he was younger.

Murray also touched on how he struggled with depression after leaving The Wiggles, with Blue Wiggle Anthony opening up about his own battle with mental health issues.

After 'bursting into tears backstage' during the band's first tour in England, the band spoke of not understanding what was going on with Anthony.

"Talking to one of my brothers, I told him I felt sad all the time and he said, 'What have you got to be sad about? You're successful, you have got all the comforts - what's wrong with you?'" Anthony shared.

Murray said the group — or anyone in the '90s — didn't really understand what depression looked like.

The group also spoke of times they didn't get along, despite their cheery nature onstage, with Anthony recalling a time that he threw a drum kit at Yellow Wiggle, Greg, after he had told him off for playing 'too loud' backstage.

The band also spoke about their 2020 reunion tour when Greg collapsed on stage after suffering, what was later found out to be, a massive heart attack.

"Greg came over to the side of the stage, and it was just behind me," Murray recalled. "He kind of fell down, he didn't look well, and I thought, 'Oh, he's just overdone it.'"

"He was lying on the ground, and his eyes started rolling back in his head, and my first thought was, he was having some sort of fit."

Greg later recalled waking up in the hospital and being told he was lucky to be alive.

"After the procedure, the nurse that was there said, 'You're a very lucky man,' because only ten per cent of people survive what you've been through,'" he shared.

Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles will be available to stream on Prime Video on October 24.
