The Wiggles divide fans after posing with controversial rapper: 'Shame'
Some followers were left outraged by the Instagram post.
The Wiggles have left their followers divided after they shared a photo on Instagram posing with popular US rapper Lil Nas X at Falls Festival over the weekend.
The 23-year-old openly gay performer, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, has sparked controversy in the past for his racy performances and explicit music videos. The visual for his song Montero (Call Me By Your Name) included a scene where he slid down a pole into hell and lap danced on the devil, and was criticised by conservatives for ‘encouraging devil worship’.
Lil Nas X was one of the headliners at the annual Australian music event Falls Festival, which also saw performances from the original Wiggles members Anthony Field, Jeff Fatt, Greg Page and Murray Cook.
After The Wiggles posted a snap with the Old Town Road hitmaker alongside the caption “new collab in the wind?”, a number of the children’s group’s fans took to the comments to criticise their affiliation.
“I’m sorry but Lil Nas should have nothing to do with children. Period,” one person wrote, followed by another who sarcastically added, “Oh yeah, such a role model for our children”.

“Such a shame, my daughter loved the Wiggles,” a third replied. “I don't see how someone who lap dances the devil in their music videos is a good candidate for working in the children's music industry.”
“They need to collab with someone who is a good role model for kids and Lil Nas X is not one of them,” someone else agreed, while a different user said, “The Wiggles have always been such a safe place for my kids, now I am not so sure”.
'Love this'
Meanwhile, there were plenty of fans who supported the two musical artists working together and expressed excitement about a potential collaboration.
“The best news to close out this year,” a fan remarked, with another writing, “I absolutely love this”.
“I knew you guys would meet up! I would really like if you guys collaborated,” one follower shared, followed by a fourth who said, “Please make it happen”.

Lil Nas X is clearly a big fan of The Wiggles, taking to social media after announcing his debut tour Long Live Montero last year to tweet: “Trying really hard to get The Wiggles to co-headline the tour with me. I will keep you guys updated.”
Just a few hours later The Wiggles replied: “We’re ready to wiggle with you!”.
The band also re-shared his post on Instagram alongside the caption: “The Big Red Car is packed and ready to go down the Old Town Road.”
