The Project's 'savage' act after Carrie Bickmore quits: 'That's just mean'

The Project has made a swift decision just one day after host Carrie Bickmore announced she would be leaving the program at the end of the year.

The presenter's co-host Peter Helliar shared a photo on Instagram on Wednesday of a subtle change made in the hallway of the show's studios.

The snap showed Carrie dressed in activewear smiling next to an empty frame on the wall where a photo of her used to be.

"Wow, Channel 10 have reacted swiftly to [Carrie Bickmore's] big farewell news," Peter wrote in the light-hearted post.

Others however thought the move was a little premature.

"That's just mean," a comment read.

"Maybe a little disrespectful," somebody else claimed.

"That is just plain sad," a third said.

Carrie announced on Tuesday she would be leaving The Project after 13 years on the program.

"There’s so much I’m gonna miss, I’m gonna miss my best mates on the desk, the job itself, which is so incredibly fulfilling. The wonderful viewers over the last 13 years," she said.

She shared that when she began working on The Project, her son Ollie, 15, was just one, adding she wants to be there for her three children and husband Chris Walker more.

"I want to spend more time at home. I want to have more family dinners," she said. "I look forward to being able to help Chris out with the kids a bit more and yeah, I'm not leaving TV."

It comes after Carrie was rumoured to be a frontrunner to replace Tracy Grimshaw as the host of A Current Affair after the veteran journalist announced she is stepping down after 17 years.

Nine is reportedly looking outside of the network with Carrie among the list of potential hosts, especially as she would finish up her current contract with Ten at the end of the year.

It has not yet been announced who will take Tracy's place.
