The Project's Carrie Bickmore loses it over bizarre Goop gifts

A $10,600 ‘birthing chair,’ a lamp made of bread and a leather bag for carrying a watermelon — no, you haven’t stumbled across the diary of a mad scientist, just actor Gwyneth Paltrow’s annual Goop Christmas gift guide.

The Project’s Carrie Bickmore took her co-hosts Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar through a selection of the Oscar winner’s bizarre present picks on Monday night, and she could barely contain her laughter.

“Not even 2020 can stop Gwyneth Paltrow. The annual Goop gift guide is out, and no surprise, it's as wacky as ever,” the 39-year-old said.

Carrie reeled off some of the ‘highlights’ from the Hollywood star’s list which included a baguette that had been covered in resin and turned into a lamp and a ‘bespoke, artisanal’ $54,000 mattress.

“And a special bag to hold your watermelon — price on request!” she added, barely hiding her grin.

But that wasn’t all.

“Oh, there's so many more fun things. There is a birthing chair, a (USD)$7,500 one that can just be used around the home, so it's multi-purpose,” Carrie deadpanned.

“Don't you have to take your pants off when giving birth?” Peter asked in reference to the photo of a fully-clothed model sitting on the avant-garde blue seat.

“That’s what I looked like!” the mum-of-three joked.

Other expensive and unusual Xmas ideas from Gwyneth included a $423 ‘plant speaker’ — “because they talk to us and we don't get to hear them!” Carrie giggled — as well as a ‘Post-Structuralist Vulva Coloring Book’ and a ‘concrete self-heating bath’ that starts at a cool $142k.
