The Block 2023: Meet this year's contestants

Australia's favourite home reno show is back, with five couples from around the nation going head-to-head for the glory of their home states. Here's everything we know so far about The Block contestants for 2023:

Steph and Gian, couple from NSW

The Block has seen all manner of tradespeople competing on the show over the years, but surprisingly, never an architect. Until now.

Enter our first couple, Steph and Gian, an architect and start-up worker from NSW. "As an architect, we're here to not give the conventional version of anything," says Steph confidently in a sneak peek of the new season. But will the pair design and build the home of their dreams or will it all come crumbling down?

Leah and Ash, parents from QLD

She's the burst of energy ready to take The Block by storm – just don't critique her styling. Meet Leah and partner Ash, a first aid officer and builder from sunny Queensland.

"I definitely overreact," admits Leah. "Yeah, that's a problem."

Watch out Scotty, sounds like this one could be trouble.

Eliza and Liberty, sisters from VIC

Personal assistant Eliza, 37, and integration producer Liberty, 34, are hoping their bubbly energy and enthusiasm will help to make up for their complete lack of renovation experience.

That's right folks. Zero renovation experience. Get the popcorn ready.

Win or lose, expect some hilariously cheeky moments from these two.

Kristy and Brett, couple from SA

The Block is all about tall orders and big asks, but what happens when you throw a perfectionist into the mix?

Meet Brett and wife Kristy, a safety officer and project manager from SA. Brett likes things done properly — it's his way or the highway, but has he bitten off more than he can chew? And will Kristy's patience run out?

Kyle and Leslie, parents from WA

Our final couple, Kyle and Leslie, a firefighter and teacher's aide from WA, are proof that persistence pays off, finally securing a spot on the show after first applying eight years ago.

Their dreams are finally coming true, but will the reality be a nightmare for the pair? They've already demonstrated determination by the truckload, so we wouldn't be writing these dreamers off just yet.
