The Block's Kyle and Leslie open up about son's diagnosis: 'Come a long way'
The married couple say the 'challenge' has ultimately helped them on The Block.
As this year’s season of The Block approaches its end, Kyle and Leslie have begun to open up about how much they’ve been missing their children throughout the experience.
The fan-favourite couple, who have relatively stayed out of the drama amongst the cast, share two young children: Luca, 11, and Archer, seven.
Speaking to 9Entertainment this week, Leslie and Kyle shared that they always tried to keep perspective of their real lives throughout the competition and not get “caught up in the race”.
“We wanted to do the show for ourselves and our family,” Kyle said. “We wanted to experience it as a couple and obviously being, you know, fans for the show and watching lots of the show over so many years. [But family is very important to us.]”

Leslie went on to say that dealing with their son Archer’s ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) diagnosis at age two and a half helped prepare them for any potential hurdles on The Block.
“I think because we've gone through something like that, and that sort of challenge as a couple and as a family, that the stuff on The Block didn't faze us,” she explained.
“Of course it does to an extent but [we could always stay calm if something popped up] like the table doesn't fit or the wall shouldn't be there. We just think, 'OK, what do we do next? How are we moving forward from this?”
Archer's journey
Leslie also shared that Archer has “come such a long way” since he was first diagnosed and they were able to compete on The Block because of all the work he’s done.
“It's amazing our family are able to support us but it's really down to him, his journey and how far he's come,” she continued. “I'm such an advocate for early intervention because I've seen the difference it can make, and we've worked hard as a couple to give him all of those things.
“It just actually blows our mind even to see him where he is currently, versus where he came from with very little language.”

Last week was quite emotional for Kyle and Leslie as they renovated their kids’ bedrooms and were constantly reminded of their own two children at home.
The couple ended up receiving the lowest scores of the week, although viewers have since argued that the judges’ critiques weren’t fair.
