Taylor Swift Fan Shares Florence Welch’s ‘Magical’ Act of Kindness During Eras Tour Appearance

There have been countless stories from Taylor Swift fans about unforgettable moments from the Eras Tour, but one recent tale shared on social media is particularly meaningful.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, Maya Thompson—who goes by Mama Maya on X—took to the platform to open up about what happened when she went to the Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium earlier this month and had an unexpected interaction with singer Florence Welch.

Thompson is no stranger to Swift concerts: As the mother of the little boy who inspired the song "Ronan," the singer has provided Thompson with tickets in the past. However, she wasn't expecting to see Welch, who joined Swift on stage to sing "Florida" during the Tortured Poets Department set—and she's a huge Florence & The Machine fan in addition to being a Swiftie.

According to Thompson, just as she was settling into the box suite at Wembley, she looked behind her and "saw the most gorgeous redhead in a stunning purple ethereal dress."

"My heart skipped a beat, and I thought, 'Holy s--t, that is Florence,'" Thompson wrote.

Thompson's best friend Charisma asked if she wanted to ask Welch for a photo, but Thompson declined, saying she didn't want to "bother" the star. A few minutes later, however, Charisma managed to get Welch's attention and beckoned her over.

"Florence came over, and Charisma mentioned how big of a fan I was. The next thing I knew, Florence had me wrapped in her arms. It wasn’t just a quick hug; I swear to God, I left my body for a solid sixty seconds. Florence looked at me and said, 'I’ll be right back. I’m going to find something to write for you,'" Thompson continued.

Welch returned moments later with a piece of paper with the words, "'Maya, all my love, Florence,' written in the most beautiful Florence handwriting."

After giving her the note, Welch returned to her spot, leaving Thompson to enjoy the rest of the show.

"I cherished watching her joyfully move to 'Shake It Off' alongside her tiny nieces," Thompson wrote.

"Being in the presence of such a magical being felt like a dream come true—something I never expected. But that’s the palpable beauty of Ronan and Taylor. That is the profound bond between my son and me, a connection that transcends the ordinary and defies the limitations of the physical realm. Our connection is eternal, a powerful force that continues to guide and inspire me, no matter where this life takes me."

Thompson's son Ronan tragically passed away from stage 4 neuroblastoma shortly before his fourth birthday. The mom went on to say that she "spent years lost in [Welch's] music" after his death, though she didn't get a chance to tell the singer as she left the box for her surprise performance and never returned.

"As the final notes of the concert echoed in my mind, I realized that while I may not have had the chance to speak my truth to Florence, her music had always understood me," Thompson shared.

"It was a reminder that even in silence, connection exists. I left that night with a heart full of gratitude, knowing that the enchantment of her artistry would continue to inspire and heal. Ultimately, it wasn’t just about meeting someone I admired; it was about her music's profound impact on my life—a gift I would carry with me always."
