Survivor's Jordie reveals Sam Frost's surprising reaction to his return

Sam was nine weeks pregnant when Jordie got the call for Heroes V Villains.

After finishing sixth on Australian Survivor: Blood V Water last season, Jordie Hansen recently made his return to the competition as a contestant on Heroes V Villains.

But despite the fact it’s barely been a year since the landscaper last played the game, there’s no denying that his life has changed dramatically in that short time. Not only did he meet and get engaged to former Home And Away actress Sam Frost, but the couple also announced in September that they’re expecting their first child together.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle about his return to Survivor, Jordie admits he had some hesitation about competing again because of Sam's pregnancy.

“Sam was newly pregnant when I got the call, so that was quite a tricky decision to make,” he shares.

“Because while obviously you want to take the opportunity, and I was so grateful and I couldn't believe I got the call, I had a nine-week pregnant fiancée waiting for me at home who's a little bit sick. Well, ‘a little bit sick’ is an under-exaggeration - she had full-time morning sickness and that was difficult.”

However, Jordie says Sam was “super excited” about the thought of him playing for a second time and there was no way she was going to let him turn the offer down.

“She booted me out the door basically,” he laughs. “I was having moments where I’d go, ‘Do I go? Do I not?’, and she was like, ‘No, you gotta go, you can't not!’.”

'Mind-blowing'

Jordie went on to say that he “couldn’t believe it” when producers asked him to compete on Heroes V Villains, especially because his season of Blood V Water hadn’t even finished airing on TV yet.

“I remember leaving last season and just going, ‘Oh god, I really hope I can come back’,” he says. “I felt like I wasn't done, there was ‘unfinished business’. So to get the call, I was so excited.

“I’d auditioned for years before getting the first opportunity, and so then to get the call the second time it was like, wow, this is unbelievable. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to play once and then to be asked to play again, it’s just mind-blowing.”

He adds that he was definitely “concerned” about how his tribemates would treat him given the fact that he was such a recent returning player.

“You know that people are looking at you, they know who you are, and they know what you've done because they just watched it,” he details.

“Being so fresh in people's minds was very difficult and I knew that I either had to sort of hide in the shadows, or just go hard. And people that watched me last season will know that I was always going to choose to go hard. I didn't want to want to leave anything on the field.

“When my brother Jesse and I were playing last season our motto was ‘play hard and have fun’, and so for me, as long as you can walk away having done that you can't be disappointed. And I can guarantee I did both of those things.”
