Naked challenge sees celebs bare all on Instagram

Aussie celebs are baring (almost) all - with naught but a towel protecting their modesty - on their Instagram accounts as a naked challenge sweeps social media.

What began as an in-joke between two ex-Australian Survivor season four contestants, David Genet and Johnny Eastoe, has exploded into a very cheeky phenomenon that’s seen many of the reality TV show’s family - including buff host Jonathan LaPaglia himself - strip off and share their naughty nudes online.

It’s been dubbed the #GoldenTowelChallenge and be warned, some of the pics are quite x-rated, so scroll on at your own risk!

What is the Golden Towel Challenge?

It all kicked off on October 21, when David - international model and self-professed Survivor “Golden God” - shared a black and white modelling shot of himself posing sans clothes and holding a white towel over his *ahem* private parts.

It was taken by famed fashion photographer Mario Testino, and David captioned his Instagram post, “I have had the privilege of working with the best of the best over my career and this towel was no exception.

“Oh also thanks to the legend @mariotestino just the best photog in the world, no big deal.”

Survivor stars strip off

The very next day, David - who is set to appear on the upcoming Australian Survivor: All Stars - shared another pic, this time a composite of the original snap alongside a photo of his fellow season four alum Johnny Eastoe mimicking his pose.

“Some legends are made and some are just born @johnnyeastoe is an Australian treasure and should be treated as such,” David captioned the second snap.

“The #goldentowelchallenge is now in full effect,” he declared, ‘nominating’ fellow Survivor stars, AFL Women's player Abbey Holmes and her partner, AFL player Keegan Brooksby to take on the racy challenge.

While Abbey appears to have sat out the challenge - so far - her beau was more than happy to oblige.

Since then, the #GoldenTowelChallenge has been taken on by several more gorgeous stars from multiple seasons of Survivor - keep reading for all the juicy snaps.

Megan Gale’s boyfriend in the buff

Former AFL star Shaun Hampson, who shares two kids with Aussie model Meghan Gale, stripped off for a bathroom photo while poring over Richard Wilkins’ biography, Black Ties, Red Carpets, Green Rooms.

Meanwhile, his season four co-star and former Miss Universe Australia Monika Radulovic shot her nudie post in the living room, covering her bust with one arm while holding the obligatory towel to preserve her modesty.

Hunky Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia, 50, blessed everyone when he did a spot of mechanics in his birthday suit. Ever the jokester, the Aussie actor swapped the towel for a bottle of car oil, rebranding his pics as the #changemyoilchallenge.

Other tribemates who got in on the nudie action were AFLW’s Moana Hope, season one’s Lee Carseldine, Shonee Fairfax (season three) and Daisy Richardson.

The man behind the original photo, Mario Testino, has weighed in on the #GoldenTowelChallenge, sharing a sweet message in the comments section of David’s Instagram post.

“Thanks David. You are one of a kind yourself and the nicest person around. Keep it up and the towel!” the famed snapper wrote.

David has since thrown the challenge out to Bachelor host Osher Günsberg, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

The real question is, are these stars just getting their kit off to drum up publicity for their upcoming appearances on All Stars, which will hit screens in February 2020? Maybe. Do we care? Not a bit.
