Supermodel Paulina Porizkova, 58, hits back after being called a 'desperate grandma'

Former supermodel Paulina Porizkova isn't afraid to flaunt her bikini body on social media. Having started her modelling career at just 15, the 58-year-old old has graced magazines, films, TV shows, and music videos throughout her life, and she continues to share stunning snaps with her fans online.

These include moments spent with her husband, socialising with friends, and, yes, rocking a swimsuit at the beach.

But it seems that not everybody wants to see it. Relentless internet trolls have taken it upon themselves to label her a "desperate grandma" and question her "need for attention" simply because she dares to share pictures that show her body.

“Most of the reactions have been overwhelmingly positive,” she previously told Los Angeles magazine about her Instagram photos. “But the negative ones have been so mean. They’re like, ‘You’re so desperate,’ or ‘It’s time to retire, grandma.’ But I looked at those pictures of myself without makeup or without clothes, and I just thought, ‘Hey, I look pretty good for my age.’”

“I remember waking up, catching a glimpse of my face in my phone, and going, ‘Holy s—, who is that?’ I took another picture from a lower angle, and it was also beyond hideous,” she continued. “And then I started thinking, ‘Well, this is what you look like now. This is the truth, and you can’t pretend that it’s not.’ And I decided, ‘You know what? It’s not so bad.’ And I posted it.”

In an previous interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Paulina candidly shared how society tends to strip away women's freedom to embrace their sexuality as they enter middle age.

"I saw people weigh in with 'you're too old to be doing this, you're embarrassing your children," Paulina recalled.

Despite the negativity, Porizkova remains undeterred, delivering a powerful message of body positivity and self-love. Defying ageism with fierce determination, she responds to the hateful comments by posting even more saucy snaps, challenging the notion that women of a certain age should conform to societal expectations.

Paulina continues to be a trailblazer for a woman's right to be visible at any age, even if it means being controversial in the eyes of some.

"Suddenly I was being transgressive," she said when discussing her decision to post swimsuit photos online. "I was being controversial, but merely the fact that I was now in my 50s made it risqué."

With her 58th birthday approaching, Paulina confidently took to Instagram to pose in black underwear and a red robe, proudly declaring, "Almost 58? Grandma, knitting, fireplace? Check, check, check, check! I’m the proud step grandma of five. I’ve knitted the sweater I’m wearing—and yes, I’m standing by a fireplace."

She then went on to celebrate her special day with even more authenticity, using bedding and her hands to cover her body, writing, "I begin 58 with nothing but sunshine and a smile. And the hope that the best is yet to come, and nothing but gratitude for all that has brought me here to the now."

As a passionate advocate for women's empowerment, Paulina Porizkova calls on society to shift its perception of ageing. She urges women to embrace their age proudly, celebrating their accomplishments and boldly declaring, "Look at what I'm doing at my age!
