Sunrise host Kochie vanishes from desk due to health issue

Sunrise host David 'Kochie' Koch vanished from the desk this morning after just 25 minutes on air due to a health issue that prevented him from soldiering on with the show.

The host appeared on the show at 5:30am, however, he disappeared just before 6am after trying to do the show with a croaky voice.

"Kochie came in [and] he bravely fought on for about 25 minutes. He had laryngitis yesterday and apparently he's still got it. He couldn't really speak."

"Yeah, he didn't like it when I suggested that he just have honey before every intro, he thought that that might bring on diabetes or something, but he could have done more," Monique also quipped.

Mark then joked that it was "funny how" Kochie has a sore throat after watching his footy team Port Adelaide win by one point in Cairns on Saturday night.

"He did try very, very hard as you probably heard earlier," Mark said with Monique agreeing. "So, we've had to dispatch Kochie, he'll be back tomorrow."

"Not hard enough, really," Nat joked. "We've Glen-20'd the whole desk and we're moving on!"

Mark stepped in for Kochie for the 6 o'clock hour and at 7am Michael Usher joined Nat as co-host for the morning.

Michael seemed surprised to be on the desk, revealing he was enjoying a bit of a sleep-in when he got the call to come into work.

"Let's see how I go," he said, hoping he wouldn't have the same thing happen to him. "Is there another on to backup [for me] as well?"

Nat followed up by joking, "It's a tainted chair, so good luck!"
