Sunny Cancelled at Apple TV+ After One Season
Sunny is powering down for good: Apple TV+ has cancelled the sci-fi mystery starring Rashida Jones after just one season, TVLine has confirmed. (Screen Daily was the first to report the news.)
Sunny starred Jones as Suzie, an American living in Japan who is devastated after her husband and son disappear in a plane crash. To help with her grief, she’s given a chipper domestic robot named Sunny that was made by her husband’s electronics company — only Suzie hates robots. They do establish a bond, though, as Suzie searches for the truth about what really happened to her family.

Along with Jones, Sunny’s cast included Hidetoshi Nishijima (as Suzie’s husband Masa), Joanna Sotomura (as the voice of Sunny) and Judy Ongg (as Masa’s mother Noriko). Katie Robbins (The Affair) created the series — based on the book The Dark Manual by Colin O’Sullivan — and served as showrunner.
Sunny debuted in July, with episodes airing weekly, wrapping up its 10-episode run in September. (Read our premiere recap here.) The finale ended on a bit of a cliffhanger as well, hinting at the possibility that Suzie’s husband Masa may still be alive. Will you miss spending time with Sunny?
