Succession Creator to Pen HBO Movie About a Global Financial Crisis

The man who introduced us to the Roy family is diving back into the world of big business for HBO.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong is writing an original movie for HBO centered on a global financial crisis, our sister site Deadline reports. The untitled film “is said to revolve around four friends who meet up during the turmoil of an ongoing international financial crisis.”

Armstrong will re-team with executive producer Frank Rich, who also served as an EP on Succession along with Armstrong. Production on the film, which is still being written, is slated to start later this year.

Armstrong was the creator and showrunner of HBO’s Succession, which wrapped up an acclaimed four-season run in 2023. The show won the Emmy for best drama series three times, with Armstrong taking home four Emmys for writing on the show as well. Armstrong also penned episodes of Veep and Black Mirror, and he earned an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay as one of the co-writers of the 2009 political satire In the Loop.
