Sophie Monk reveals the photo that ruined her surprise proposal
Sophie Monk has revealed her now fiancé’s surprise proposal was ruined after she spotted a paparazzi picture of him coming out of a jewellery shop.
The 41-year-old got engaged to 37-year-old businessman Joshua Gross on Christmas Day, after he got down on one knee while the pair were enjoying a coffee at home.
In an interview for Stellar magazine, Sophie gushed over her fiancé and revealed how she found out about his surprise proposal, where he gave Sophie a stunning Luke Rose ring.
When asked if Sophie had any idea that Joshua was about to propose, Sophie said: “Yes, because there was a paparazzi shot of him leaving Luke Rose, so I kind of guessed. – and my heart broke for the surprise. But then I guess I was prepared in a way.”

Joshua said he was ‘heartbroken’ over the pictures as he’d tried for six months to go undercover and not get photographed at the jewellery shop.
“Everything is so public for her, I thought this is one thing we can have behind closed doors. So that was a little heartbreaking,” he said.
The couple revealed that their wedding will be intimate and they would love to start a family in the future.
Back in January, Sophie took to her Instagram page to make the exciting announcement, with her fans losing it over the joyful news.
“Told you I’d tell you guys first,” she wrote, alongside a ring emoji.
“I’m engaged. I honestly can’t thank you enough for all the love and support. I know I have the coolest people following me and you’ve always had my back and I feel so cared about. You’re absolute bloody legends.
I’m not very good at being mushy. I’m trying to say I absolutely adore you. @joshuargross and I are so happy.”
Sophie looked stunning in her announcement photo, holding on to her future husband’s face as she revealed that Joshua designed the ring with her favourite Aussie designer, Luke Rose.
Sophie and LA-based businessman Joshua first began dating at the end of 2018. At the time, she told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show that they’d only met once before they decided to make things official.
Sophie was on a flight back from Europe, with the Love Island host sitting next to Joshua on the plane in business class.
After a few champagnes with Joshua, who had no idea who she was, Sophie knew “it was on”.
Feeling confident, Sophie asked him on the flight if they could kiss, but only after they both gave their teeth a good brush first.
After her mile-high make-out session, Sophie revealed she was officially off the market. However, she’d only met the guy once and he lived overseas.
“I’ll have to meet up with him one day,” Sophie said laughing.
After that, things moved pretty fast for the pair and Joshua relocated from LA to the Gold Coast to be with Sophie in 2019.
Since then, they’ve regularly updated their followers with loved-up snaps on Instagram, with the pair constantly looking blissfully in love.
In July, Joshua posted an anniversary note to Sophie online, which read: Thanks for making the first move ✈️😘 Happy anniversary kiddo.”
Sophie also posted to her account, writing: Happy anniversary @joshuargross. I can’t believe you’ve put up with me for 2 years. 😂I love you so much and you’re my best friend in the world... I can’t wait to marry you (hint hint)”
Rumours swirled in early December that Joshua had already gotten down on one knee and proposed to Australia’s sweetheart.
A source reportedly told Woman's Day magazine Joshua whisked Sophie away for a romantic trip in Sydney, before dropping to one knee and surprising her with a diamond ring.
“Josh picked up the ring in Sydney last week and then surprised her by popping the question,” the insider claimed.
But after the ‘engagement news’ swept the country, Sophie took to her Instagram stories to clear things up promising her followers she was not engaged.
“Promise I’m not engaged... as if I wouldn’t tell you guys straight away,” she wrote, before adding in a later post that she would “insta live if I was”.
Sophie has been engaged at least twice before, first to Benji Madden of the band Good Charlotte and then multi-millionaire businessman Jesse Esberg. She was also previously linked to Aussie actor Sam Worthington and American TV personality Ryan Seacrest.
Before dating Joshua, Sophie appeared to find ‘the one’ in wealthy publican Stu Laundy during the 2017 season of The Bachelorette, but the pair split just a few months after the show’s finale.
