Sophie Monk posts sweet tribute to her 'hubby' after secret wedding

Australians have long been invested in Sophie Monk’s love life, including her memorable 2017 stint on The Bachelorette, and now she’s surprised fans by revealing that she and her fiancé Joshua Gross are married.

The couple announced over the weekend that they had tied the knot in an intimate at-home ceremony last month where they were the only two guests.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Sophie posted a sweet gallery of photos from the special day alongside a heartfelt tribute to her new husband.

“I HAVE A HUBBY!” she wrote.

“We eloped-ish at home. I can’t believe I met him on a plane! It’s crazy. Best flight of my life! I really do believe everything happens for a reason.”

“I love you @joshuargross,” she continued. “Thanks for putting up with how messy, disorganised and lazy I am. You're my best friend in the world AND you are welcome for how hilarious my jokes are and how I absolutely smash you in Xbox F1! We’re both lucky.”

Joshua also shared some snaps on social media alongside the caption: “Sophie, I love you. Now and forever.”

'Stress-free'

While there were no guests in attendance, the pair spoke with Stellar after exchanging their vows and explained why they wanted to have such an intimate ceremony.

“We always thought we’d elope, to be honest,” the TV presenter said.

“So many people said to me, ‘I didn’t even see my husband on the night; if I had my wedding over, we’d just elope’. So we thought, well, why don’t we just get married at home? I’ve seen people get really stressed about their wedding and ours has been so stress-free.

“I’m 42, so I feel like (our loved ones) are like, OK, do it your way. We figured if we don’t invite one person, then no one could get upset.”

The Love Island Australia host also revealed that she had worked alongside Melbourne-based designer J’Aton Couture to design two wedding dresses for the big day.

"We didn’t give them long [to design it], but they’re pros,” she said. “I sketched it out a couple of weeks ago with my stylist. I wanted to just keep it simple, beautiful and timeless, but still ‘bride’.”

'Can I kiss you?'

Sophie and Joshua, who is a neurosurgical robotics consultant, first met on a flight from Europe to Sydney in 2018.

After chatting and enjoying “three champagnes” in business class, the pair shared their first kiss.

“I was sitting there for a while and I went, ‘Hey, um, are you single?’,” Sophie said when telling the story on Kyle & Jackie O.

“And he went, ‘Yeah’. I went, ‘I don’t ever get to meet people in normal scenarios and, um, can I kiss you?’… I thought, ‘Oh god I’ve got a 10-hour flight with this guy, if he says no I’m in trouble’.”

They went Instagram official with their relationship in November 2018 and announced their engagement in January last year.
