Singer Loomis Admits She 'F---ed Up' Mid-Performance During Live National Anthem Fiasco: 'Can I Go Back Please?'

Another national anthem performance is picking up traction on social media.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, up-and-coming singer Loomis sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" during a live taping at the Free and Equal Elections Foundation's third party presidential debate, when she asked for a mid-performance do-over.
The performance itself, fully available on CSPAN's website and shared by viewers on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, began more or less without a hitch. But about 40 seconds in, the vocalist admittedly ran into some pitch issues while arriving at the lyrics, "And the rockets' red glare."
"I f---ed it up, I f---ed it up," Loomis said live on air while pausing mid-performance after a vocal mishap. "Can I go back? Can I go back please?"

Someone on set told Loomis the performance was indeed "live" before she decided to continue singing. During the next lyric, she appeared to again land on some dud notes with another vocal run. "I got too nervous," she said into the microphone, before again continuing onto the performance.
Still, the singer finished off the anthem relatively smoothly and was commended on her "beautiful" rendition by an event moderator.
A rep for Loomis, who has not posted about the performance as of Friday, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
In the days since Loomis' performance, listeners have been sounding off on TikTok, commending her "instant accountability" and recommending that Saturday Night Live take some notes for a future skit. "I know other countries tune into us like we r reality television," one commenter wrote, while another added: "ik her heart DROPPED as soon as she heard it was live omg 😭."
"Fergie is finally freeeeee 😂😩," another user wrote, referring to Fergie's viral 2018 anthem performance at the NBA All-Star Game.

Over the years, other artists have sparked buzz with their national anthem performances, including Flavor Flav and Ingrid Andress. Andress, who sang it ahead of the 2024 Home Run Derby, also issued a statement following social media feedback, telling fans that she was drunk at the time and would be checking herself "into a facility today to get the help I need."
"I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know how rehab is I hear it's super fun. xo, Ingrid."
