Freddie Prinze Jr. reveals why he and Sarah Michelle Gellar keep their romance away from the spotlight
"There's no secret to it and it wasn't hard. We just don't like that life, you know?"
Freddie Prinze Jr. is shedding some light on why he and Sarah Michelle Gellar choose to keep their relationship away from the public eye.
While visiting the Oldish podcast on Monday, the actor told hosts Brian Austin Green, Sharna Burgess, and Randy Spelling that he and his wife make a concerted effort ensure that their private life stays private.
"That's by choice, though,” Prinze said. “You can control it to a certain degree."

The She’s All That star explained that he and Gellar, who have been married since 2002, avoid the spotlight by simply choosing to live their lives just like everybody else.
"I don't know how deliberate [other celebrities] are in trying to avoid that BS," Prinze said. "I know how easy it's been for us because I don't go anywhere. I don't go to parties. People don't see Sarah and I out and about at the popular places. We have our restaurants that we like, and they're not super trendy in places where paparazzi hang out. So we're good at avoiding it."
While Prinze noted that he’s "not trying to s— on anyone," he explained that it’s “not that hard to avoid” media attention if you’re truly trying to avoid it. “There's times where [paparazzi] wait at the bottom of our street, but there's people that are way more famous than me on my street," he teased. "So I'll just make sure they leave first. They'll go follow Schwarzenegger and leave me alone. You know what I mean?”
Prinze continued, “There's no secret to it and it wasn't hard. We just don't like that life, you know?"
He also noted that Gellar “grew up in New York” and, as a result, “experienced everything before she was 21 years old" including nightclubs. Prinze, on the other hand, added that he “can count on one hand how many clubs I've been [to] my whole life.”
In fact, one of them was actually his Freddie costar Green. “I don’t remember what it was called,” he said. “They had live music though, it was cool."
Prinze and Gellar first met on the set of the iconic 1997 slasher film, I Know What You Did Last Summer. The couple, who share two children together, recently celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in September.
