Simon Cowell speaks out after breaking back in cycling accident
Simon Cowell has spoken out after breaking his back in a cycling accident.
The 60-year-old took to his Twitter account to thank everyone for their well-wishes after it was revealed that he is set to undergo surgery after the fall.
“Some good advice... If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages,” he wrote.
“And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone Simon.”
Simon’s fellow America’s Got Talent judge, Heidi Klum, commented on his post on Instagram, saying: “We miss you Simon. Get well soon”.
A rep for Simon confirmed the news to People that the incident occurred while the music mogul was testing out his new electric bike at his home in Malibu, California.
They said: "He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands."
The statement added that Simon had broken his back and would require surgery.
Since the coronavirus pandemic kicked off, Simon has been living with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman and their six-year-old son Eric, as well as her 14-year-old son Adam from a previous relationship.
Simon previously told People that he'd been enjoying spending time with his son as they isolated.
"We definitely have more family time together now. We watch movies in the evening, play together, read books, comics, everything," he said.
The America’s Got Talent judge recently revealed he'd lost 27kg in the past year.

He revealed his new exercise routine to the magazine, saying, "Cycle, walk, swim, push-ups. I haven't cheated on my diet," he said.
"I feel really healthy at the moment."
Speaking with Extra earlier this year, he revealed: "I think I have dropped, since I started this diet a year ago, 60 pounds."
"I'm doing a bit of cooking. I'm exercising. Funny enough, more during this time as well, sticking to the diet.”
However, Simon did say that he is tempted to break free from his healthy eating routine when his Eric decides what’s for dinner.
"The only difficult thing is when Eric orders a pizza... that's the number one thing I miss,” he said.
Simon’s transformation comes after he fell down the stairs last year during the night, which he claimed was a ‘wake-up call’.
“It wasn’t the end of the world – but a bit embarrassing,” Simon said at the time, in an interview with The Sun.
“If I’m honest with you, I was probably over-tired. I feel better this year than I do this time last year.”
He reportedly overhauled his diet after discovering a host of food allergies he was unaware of for most of his adult life.
