Someone first asked Van Dyke, "Do you think Donald Trump is capable of making America great again?" to which he said, "Fortunately I won't be around to experience the four years."

Another question posed to the actor was, "Does the future look bright for America?" He stated in response, "I hope you're right!"

The blunt reaction from Van Dyke isn't surprising, as he voiced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris shortly before the election by referencing a time in 1964 when he read a message from Rod Serling at an event with Martin Luther King Jr.

In the speech read by Van Dyke, Serling said, "There will be moments of violence and expressions of hatred and an ugly echo of intolerance, but these are the clinging vestiges of a decayed past, not the harbingers of the better, cleaner future."

Another part of the speech encouraged people to keep working for a better future, saying, "If there is one mind remaining to think a thought of warmth and friendship, then there’s a future in which we will find more than one hand, more than one voice, and more than one mind dedicated to the cause of man’s equality.”

Both Serling and Van Dyke are known for being outspoken about their liberal beliefs throughout their lives.
