Simon Baker, 51, 'Facebook official' with new love Laura May, 36

He was snapped frolicking in the surf with a mystery woman just a few weeks ago.

And now The Mentalist star Simon Baker appears to have made things 'Facebook official' with his new lady love, 36-year-old Byron Bay-based fashion designer Laura May Gibbs.

The Aussie actor, 51, posed for a sweet snap with Laura May while promoting his latest film, High Ground, in north-east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

The photo, which was uploaded to Facebook by a local Yirrkala community member on March 19, shows the pair beaming while standing shoulder-to-shoulder. As yet, neither Simon nor Laura May have posted about one another on their respective social media accounts.

Simon was on location in Arnhem Land last year to shoot the critically acclaimed period drama, High Ground.

The film is set in the 1930s and tells the story of a young Aboriginal man Gutjuk (played by Jacob Junior Nayinggul) who teams up with Simon's ex-soldier Travis to find a missing family member.

Seaside love

Fresh from his split with wife of 29 years, Rebecca Rigg, Simon wasn't afraid to pack on the PDA with Laura May on a Byron Bay beach back in February.

At 36 years old, Laura May is 15 years the Aussie actor's junior who will be celebrating his 52nd birthday in July.

The pair were spotted getting as close as the boisterous waves would allow them, with Simon holding Laura in his arms as they leapt over waves, and later cuddling her in a lull, neither able to wipe the ecstatic grins from their faces.

Clad in a black string bikini featuring a very fashionable cheeky cut, Laura May looked every inch the glamorous designer as she and Simon made the most of the last days of summer in NSW's northern playground.

According to reports from The Daily Telegraph, the pair met in Byron where Laura May runs her fashion label Nagnata, an active-wear brand inspired by her love of yoga, with her sister Hannah.

Simon has a farm in Nashua, a locality about 30 minutes South West of Byron.

Simon splits from wife Rebecca

The pair's very hands-on first public outing comes after Simon confirmed his split from ex-wife Rebecca, 51, on January 29.

In a joint statement to People Magazine at the time, Simon and Rebecca said their three children, Stella, 27, Claude, 22, and Harry, 19 were their priority amid the break-up.

"We remain close friends and our three children will always be the most important focus of our lives," their statement read.

The magazine reported that despite the news breaking in January this year, the two actually called it quits back in April 2020, managing to keep the split under wraps for months.

Simon and Rebecca met in the early 1990s and tied the knot in 1998.
