Shawn Mendes Serves Emotional Guitar Guy Vibes at the 2024 VMAs as Fans Speculate His Song Is About Camila Cabello

If you were craving more music from a Canadian heartthrob, then you're in luck! Shawn Mendes just took the VMA stage for the first time since 2021, when he performed his dance track "Summer of Love" with Tainy.

In a moody/foggy room, Shawn grabbed his guitar and performed a brand-new track called "Nobody Knows" from his album Shawn, which is set to drop on October 18. As for the vibes of Shawn's VMAs comeback? They were immaculate, although slightly triggering with lyrics like “When you’re so in love and souls touch but it’s still not enough where does it go? Nobody knows" because we all have that one ex who found any excuse to strum some strings (don't side-eye me, reader, you know it's true). The difference is we're *willingly* watching our man Shawn perform:

Speaking of exes, Shawn's emotional and broody rendition "Nobody Knows" was sandwiched among his rumored ex, Sabrina Carpenter, and his ex and "Señorita" collaborator, Camila Cabello's performances. Fans even dubbed this year's performance schedule a "diabolical" move from MTV.

The two-time VMA nominee revealed he went back to the studio for the first time in four years (!!!) in January 2024, when he started creating his latest album, Shawn. Leading up to the release of "Why Why Why" and "Isn't That Enough" in August, the Canadian crooner shared snippets of his time in the studio curating the album at Bear Creek Studio in Washington and Dark Horse Studio in Nashville.

"I wish I could show you every moment of making this album because it truly was so healing, but I’m glad you’re even getting a glimpse. This was to me some of the most memorable and enjoyable moments making music in my life," he wrote on Instagram.

Well! It's safe to say we're ready for the album, Shawn. ❤️
