Shaun White Tried Proposing to Nina Dobrev Twice Before Their Engagement
Third time's a charm.
Yesterday, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White shared that they were taking things to the next level with big engagement news. However, it turns out that the Olympian had actually tried to propose to his now-fiancée two times before actually going all the way. Speaking to Vogue, White revealed that Dobrev's dirt bike accident derailed his initial plan and then his backup idea of having it all go down in South Africa got thwarted, too.
Eventually, he managed to make it happen for real by faking a fashion event, down to making an invitation and implying that the Vampire Diaries actress was getting face time with Anna Wintour.
"He made the invite look so legitimate," Dobrev shared with Vogue.
White proposed for real at New York City's Golden Swan Restaurant with a five-carat Lorraine Schwartz ring. Even though there wasn't a sit-down with Wintour, Dobrev said she was totally surprised.
“I went into shock," she shared. "I just froze and stared at him."
Dobrev shared the news on Instagram yesterday, writing, "RIP Boyfriend, hello fiancé."
E! News adds that the two grew close during 2020's COVID-19 lockdown and went public with their relationship that year.
"After spending weeks together during quarantine," a source shared at the time, "Nina and Shaun have made it clear to their friends that they are a serious couple."
Since then, they've become one of Hollywood's most beloved couples, making appearances at multiple Olympic Games and appearing together on red carpets (it doesn't get more glam than the Vanity Fair Oscar party, right?). They are regulars on one another's social media feeds and have also shared a peek into their lives with their famous pals, like Miles and Keleigh Teller and Usher.
