Serena Williams among the first of Meghan's friends to visit baby Archie
Serena Williams has become one of the first of Meghan Markle’s friends to have a chance to meet baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Meghan and Prince Harry introduced the world to Baby Sussex just a few weeks ago,
“I can reveal that tennis superstar Serena Williams popped in to see him last week, making a flying visit before she headed for Paris to prepare for the French Open tournament,” Katie Hind wrote for the Mail on Sunday.
Serena had shared a photo of herself on Instagram in a very royal-looking room.
And the tennis star’s fans were quick to catch on.
“Looks like you are somewhere in London maybe? Meeting baby Archie with Jessica?” one person commented on the post.
Who will be Archie’s godparents?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received plenty of visitors at Frogmore Cottage over the past week, but have yet to announce who they have chosen as Archie’s godparents.
Serena is definitely one of the most high-profile front-runners.
Meghan was in London to watch the tennis ace play in Wimbledon before her fateful blind date with Harry in 2016, and the pair have only become closer as scrutiny toward Meghan intensified.
“We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other a lot recently,” Serena told Sunrise of their friendship last year.
Of course Jessica and Ben Mulroney are also among the favourites to nab a spot as baby Sussex’s godparents – following on from their three children’s roles in Meghan’s bridal party last May.
Their twin sons, John and Brian and daughter, Ivy, acted as pageboys and flower girl.
The Toronto-based pair have been firm friends with the 37-year-old duchess since she moved to the city in 2011 and it has been rumoured Meghan has made trips to visit the family since becoming a royal.
Meghan’s closest confidant and stylist, Jessica and her TV presenter husband, even joined the duke and duchess on their royal tour in Australia last year.
Georgie Clooney puts himself out of the running
Hollywood actor George Clooney says he would prefer not being the godfather of Meghan and Harry’s newborn son.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this month, the 58-year-old actor, who has been a longtime friend to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, explained exactly why he’d rather decline the special honour if he was approached by the couple.
“That would be a bad idea,” said Clooney. “What would that — I shouldn't be the [godfather] — I'm the father of twins. I can barely do that.”
