Serena Williams Celebrates Daughter Adira's First Birthday With Throwback Photos From Her Maternity Shoot
"She is so special, so fun, so funny, so loving, so sweet, and so strong."
Serena Williams's youngest daughter, Adira, is officially a year old. To celebrate the occasion, the tennis champion shared a series of photos from a maternity shoot that she did with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their daughter, Olympia, while she was pregnant.
In the snaps, Williams wore several chiffon pieces that draped beautifully over her baby bump. In one of the images, Williams hung from a sheer aerial silk, with her body outline on full display, while in the others, she appeared in a gossamer white gown with holographic thread alongside Olympia and Alexis. She also did shots with just her daughter.
"Adira is a girl’s name of Hebrew origin and means ‘mighty,’ ‘strong,’ and ‘majestic,’" Williams explained in the caption of the post. "The elegant name is popular in many cultures around the world. Adira is the feminine form of the classic name Adir. It is a Biblical name, meaning ‘Strong One.’"
In the one-on-one shots with her and Olympia, Williams shared that her capacity for loved changed the first time she became pregnant—so much so, that she believed a love like it couldn't strike twice.
"Olympia is always there for me. Before having a second child, I always wondered, 'how could I love anything as much as I love @olympiaohanian?'" she captioned the sweet photos. "Then Adira came along … she is so special, so fun, so funny, so loving, so sweet and so strong!!! You see, God makes your heart get bigger. Because my love for Olympia has not dimmed. My heart simply now is doubled the size and I have a greater capacity to love more!"
While Alexis didn't share a one year birthday post, he shared an adorable photo of the newly minted family of four when Adira was born.
"Welcome, Adira River Ohanian. I'm grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you've now given me another incomparable gift—you're the GMOAT," he wrote. "Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter. I'll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister. 'Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.'"
