Long before Colin Jost was the host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!, it turns out he was making his own go-around at guessing trivia on television.

On January 20, fans of the Saturday Night Live star got to see him promote his latest gig during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While he discussed how he likes being a host of the latest quiz show in the Jeopardy! franchise, host Jimmy Fallon pointed out this isn't the first time he's appeared on a program like this.

As it turned out, Colin was a contestant on an NBC game show called The Weakest Link (which aired from 2001 to 2002 and was later revived in 2022 for three seasons) — Jimmy had found the tape of how he fared. When the clip began to roll (much to Colin's shock), the host asked then-college student Colin the question of in what season does August occur when living in the Northern Hemisphere of the world. The snippet showed Colin thinking about it before answering "fall," which was incorrect. But rewatching this moment had Colin blushing in embarrassment, and he had to share his thoughts on his younger self competing.

"'What season is August in?' and I said 'Fall,'" Colin stated in a clip posted on Instagram. "By the way, I thought about it, then said, 'Fall.' So much more humiliating when you're wearing a Harvard sweatshirt."

Naturally, seeing this clip led Jimmy to continue asking questions about Colin's time participating on a game show that offered prize money at the end. And despite what the clip showed, Colin actually had some success — but it came with a hilarious caveat.

"That game show had a voiceover every round, and in every round, it was, 'Statistically, the weakest link this round was Colin,'" he laughingly added about the experience. "And then I managed to get in, survive 'til the end, and then I ran the table at the end. But I had been so bad at the game, that there was almost no money to win because I had gotten it all wrong."

Upon learning of Colin's secret game show past, fans immediately had to react.

"This made my day 😆❤️," one person wrote in the Instagram comments. "Colin is just hilarious 😂," another agreed. "No worries Harvard university is so proud of you 🤓," a different viewer added in reference to how his career on TV later turned out.

Well, now this is all making sense! And should Colin want to brush up on his trivia skills and make another attempt at competing on quiz shows, we certainly wouldn't mind at all.
