  • However, the judge resentenced the reality star to the same 84 months of prison she previously received at the hearing

Savannah Chrisley is looking back on how her boyfriend Robert Shiver showed his support for her mother Julie ahead of her resentencing hearing in September.

During a conversation with Shriver on the latest episode of her Unlocked podcast, the Chrisley Knows Best alum, 27, shared, “What a lot of people don't know though is that when preparing for that resentencing hearing, we obviously had to write — we didn't have to — but, I wrote a letter to the judge, Grayson did, a few of mom and dad's friends, just kind of in support of her leniency resentencing and so on.”

“And you wrote a letter,” she told Shiver, adding, “I haven't read this, I think, since you read it to me that night. I think my whole purpose of reading this is to just to show the person that you are and how you show up.”

The reality star went on read the letter that Shiver sent to Judge Eleanor L. Ross ahead of the hearing, during which Julie was resentenced to the same 84 months of prison she previously received.

“Dear Judge Eleanor Ross — well, he said honorable, but I'm gonna leave that one out — Dear Judge Eleanor Ross, I hope this letter finds you well,” the letter began. “I'm writing this on behalf of Julie Chrisley and the Chrisley family.”

In the letter, Shiver noted that he had been “fortunate enough” to get to know Savannah and her siblings Grayson and Chloe over the last year, adding, “I've firsthand seen the impact that the sentencing of Julie has had on all three. I'd like to take a moment to share with you what my experience has been like in an attempt that you find it in your heart and in the law to allow Julie's sentence to be reduced.”

He went on to detail the struggles Chloe — the biological daughter of Todd's estranged son Kyle — has faced amid Todd and Julie’s ongoing prison sentences after she was adopted by the couple in 2016. He wrote, “First off, I'd like to speak about Chloe Chrisley. As you may know, Chloe's biological mother and father are already nonexistent in her life, and she looks to both Todd and Julie as her mother and father."

“Chloe, 11, has been dealt a tough hand from the moment she was born, and Julie has truly taken her in and raised her, which I believe shows that Julie has always done whatever it takes to give her kids or grandkids the best possible support they need.” he continued.  “Chloe is a very spirited young girl who makes friends easily and is very energetic and has just recently joined the middle school cheer team. One of the challenges that she's having in school is the constant bullying that occurs due to the kids being vocal about her parents' situation. I know that bullying can take its toll on individuals over time, and I believe that if Julie was allowed to return home to raise Chloe, you would see a new human with such a bright future that is being overshadowed now due to the circumstances.”

“Every event, school program, or sleepover feels somewhat empty right now because she cannot look into the stands and see that warm smile or get that big congrats after her accomplishments, and that makes a child feel worthy and that the work that they're putting in is recognized and rewarded from a parent.”

He explained that Grayson is “someone that I've grown so close with over the past year.”

“I look at him as a younger brother or an older son,” Shiver wrote. “I believe he would tell you he looks at me as a role model and an example of what he would like to be as he continues to grow. Grayson also has his sense of emptiness while he goes through his senior year.”

Savannah’s boyfriend reflected on the moments that Julie has missed while behind bars, writing, “Julie was unable to see any type of baseball games or college acceptance letters, prom dates. She's missed them all over the last 2 years, so Savannah and myself have made it a priority to be there for him.”

“I speak with Grayson most every day. I do my best to provide him with the support, encouragement, and walk him through the challenges of life,” he added. “This kid has got such an upside potential to him as he continues to mature and grow. But in his heart, he wants his mother. His mom is his best friend.”

“The way he talks to me about her and how she never missed a game or a school program or even a drop off or pickup from school tells me how much she means to him, but also how much he means to her. They cherish each other and reestablishing that relationship with a new appreciation of life and of second chances would mean the world to both of them.”

As for Savannah, Shiver wrote that she has “grown up right in front of everyone's eyes” as she stepped in to become her siblings' legal guardian while her parents serve time in prison. He shared, “As an older sister to step in and step up to overnight become the mother, father, and financial provider for her two siblings is something that most people would, a, never take on, and, b, begin to even accomplish what she has.”

He noted that Savannah has “sacrificed” for his siblings, sharing, “Her life's been put on hold over the last 2 years because this is how this family loves. They love hard and they love deep. They're fighters and she leads the way on that.”

He noted that she ensured her siblings had access to “the therapy, tutoring, food, shelter, and all the things for a situation that was completely out of her control.”

After writing that Savannah has learned “the small things in life and to better understand people with challenges and struggles,” he added, “I do not think there's another individual on this planet that could have stepped in and stepped up to the plate better than what she's done.”

“She has exemplified what selfless love is better than anyone I've ever seen before, and I'm prayerful that she will get her life back if Julie's allowed to come home,” he continued. “I've had the opportunity to visit with Julie one time in con one time in Kentucky, and I speak with her frequently when she calls. I can tell you firsthand that Julie loves her kids more than anything in this world.”

Shiver then explained that Julie calls “daily,” writing, “I've heard her laugh, cry, struggle, and help others. Her heart is as big as they come, and she wants to get back home to be present for her kids.”

Calling it Julie’s “number one priority” to come back home, he wrote, “I hope you find it inside yourself to look at the real evidence and what little Julie's part of this she has had to grant her with time served. In doing this, you can change four individuals' lives, Julie, Savannah, Grayson, and Chloe.”

He continued, “These four people can make such a positive impact on so many people's lives if they could have the ability to first get back whole themselves and then use their experience to pour into others, which is something I know they will do.”

“You can reunite a family to change lives. Our greatest calling isn't what our name is or what we do. It's the impact that we have on people. Julie Chrisley can be a positive impact in society today.”

He concluded the letter by imploring the judge to reduce Julie's sentence and allow her to return home to her children.

“With her back in the picture, the kids grow up so much more complete. They will still have unexpected challenges in life as all of us do,” he shared. “But, being able to go through those with the love and support of Julie being in the house or a phone call away makes these challenges easier to overcome.”

“In closing, I wanna see the positive impact that they can have in society become a reality as soon as possible,” he added. “I believe that when you look at the facts of the case that are tied to Julie, that you find it in your heart and in the law to make the determination that Julie and this family can be reunited in the very near future.”

Before receiving reduced sentences in 2023, Julie was sentenced to seven years in Nov. 2022 while her 55-year-old husband, Todd, received a 12-year sentence for fraud and tax evasion. They have continued appealing their cases since reporting to their respective prisons in January 2023.

Though the family didn't get the result they had hoped, Julie's appeal was granted in April 2024 and her seven-year sentence was vacated in months later due to insufficient evidence. At the time, Todd's sentence was been upheld.
