Sam Armytage gets candid about having kids in rare chat: 'Was on my radar'

Samantha Armytage has opened up about having kids in a candid chat with Kyle Sandilands.

The pair were discussing the exciting news that Karl is about to become a father, after he revealed earlier this week that his fiancée Tegan Kynaston is pregnant with the couple’s first child.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Kyle asked the former Sunrise host what her plans for kids are.

“I think I’m a bit past it now. I am 75-years-old now,” Sam, who is 45-years-old, joked.

“It was on my radar but it just hasn’t happened so you just have to redirect your path.”

Despite not having children of her own, Sam is the proud stepmother to her husband Richard Lavender's two adult children, Sasha and Grace.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph in 2017, Samantha opened up about motherhood, saying: “Well, yes (I want kids), I’ve never made any secret of it but I don’t know whether that is my path.

“It would be nice but if it doesn’t happen then c’est la vie and if it does, it would be lovely. I don’t like talking about it because you don’t know what is going to happen.”

Sam married Richard Lavender on New Year’s Eve 2021 with the TV star and her businessman beau saying ‘I do’ in front of a small number of guests on his 40-hectare Southern Highlands, NSW, property.

She first announced the couple’s engagement on June 21, 2020, by sharing a photo of herself with her hubby-to-be Richard to her Instagram, her left-hand ring finger sparkling with a solitaire diamond ring.

The couple’s initial plans were derailed by Covid-19 and when Sam returned to the Sunrise desk in January 2021 she revealed they had planned their nuptials in just three days.

"Three days before we decided we'd do it for New Year's Eve," she said.

"We did it, we got it done, it was a little bit stressful for me but Rich was very relaxed.

"It was dad, my dad, we were all sitting around, at Christmas time as you do, having a champagne and beer on the verandah, and dad said because of COVID and everyone's in lockdown…dad said ‘just do it, for god’s sake, just do it,’ so we did it!”

“It was nice, there was 12 of us there, we organised it in three days and it was fun.”

Sam shocked Sunrise viewers in March 2021 when she announced that she was departing the show after eight years at the helm.

She revealed it was time for the "sun to set" on her time on the show, but she would remain a part of the Seven network, with new projects to be announced at a later stage.

"I have always been brave and fearless in my career and this decision is no different," Samantha said.

“I want to take a break and find some peace and calm. I go out of this job at a time of my own choosing and on top of the ratings, which not many people on television can say they do.

“I cannot thank you all enough for having me in your lounge rooms all these years.”
