Carpenter entered her first Grammys with six total nominations: Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet, Song of the Year for “Please Please Please,” and Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso.”
Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff were celebrating from the audience when Carpenter took to the podium to accept her first televised win for Best Pop Vocal Album. “I’m still out of breath from the performance,” she said while taking the stage. “I really was not expecting this. And all of those nominees who were just on the screen are some of my favorite artists in the world, and I can’t believe I’m nominated against them.”
