Russell Crowe's unusual wedding gift for Bindi Irwin
He reportedly splashed the cash on a $25,000 engagement gift for Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell and now Russell Crowe’s wedding present for the newlyweds has been revealed.
Taking to her Instagram account, Bindi wished the actor a happy birthday while posing alongside a fig tree wrapped in a bow with a tag that read: “Port Jackson Fig. Presented to Bindi and Chandler to commemorate their wedding. Love from Russell Crowe and Family”.
“Happy Birthday, @russellcrowe. You’ll always be part of our family. Even though we can’t see you right now, we’re giving the beautiful fig you gifted us a hug and thinking of you.
Hope your day is extraordinary,” she wrote.
People were quick to commend the Gladiator star for sending such a thoughtful gift to the couple, who wed just hours before coronavirus rules impacted weddings in Queensland on March 25.
“What an Amazingly thoughtful gift. The gift that keeps giving. Anniversary after anniversary. I’d take pictures of that tree it’s kinda symbolic it changes as it grows as will your marriage,” one fan wrote.
Others called it a “beautifully unique gift” and one person said they want a”Russell fig tree”.
Back in July 2019, Chandler got down on one knee and proposed to 21-year-old Bindi at Australia Zoo.
Her mum Terri reportedly said Russell Crowe gave Bindi a $25,000 Rolex watch, which the Hollywood actor believed her dad 'would have wanted' her to have, according to the Daily Mail.
The gift came amid persistent rumours that Teri and Russell were dating each other.
Teri revealed to the Courier Mail that Russell was one of the first people to call her and offer up his condolences after her husband, Steve Irwin, passed away in 2006.
“'It meant a lot and now I kind of feel sorry for him because he is forever being linked to me so I could be cramping his style – same for Richard Wilkins,” she said.
Russell has also gushed about Teri in the past, revealing that he’s kept in close contact with the family after Steve’s passing.
"I was great friends with Steve and his wife and his kids are really important to me. They're beautiful people," he told Newscorp.
"Terri is one of the greatest women I've ever met in my life, without there being implication of intimacy or whatever.
"You know I do love Terri Irwin, I love her kids and I love how she's kept the memory of Steve alive, and respected the work that the two of them had begun and she's an absolute champion."
