Royal photographer: Harry and Meghan are breaking baby tradition

A royal photographer says a post-birth photo call – similar to the one William and Kate have done with all three of their children – is ‘unlikely’ to happen for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, given the lack of information from the palace.

Harry and Meghan are just weeks away from welcoming their first child, but there has been no confirmation from royal aides about which hospital the couple have chosen, whether they will have a home birth, or whether they will introduce their newborn in front of the world’s press.

In fact, the palace barely announced that Meghan was going on maternity leave, and this was only found out when it was revealed her schedule was empty.

Tim Rooke, Shutterstock Royal Photographer, has photographed Kate with her three children after each of their births outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington.

“I don’t think we’re going to get the same thing with the Duchess of Sussex’s baby,” he told Cosmopolitan UK.

“At this point with Kate’s babies, we’d been briefed by the palace, but we’ve had no briefings whatsoever.”

In the lead-up to the births of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, parking restrictions were put in place outside the Lindo Wing.

There are currently no notices up outside the unit, which all but confirms that the baby will be delivered elsewhere. And their new home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, is 40km away from the Lindo Wing.

“They’ve already moved into Frogmore Cottage so why would they come up to West London to have the baby?” Tim said.

The photographer, who has been taking pictures of the royal family since the early 1990s, thinks the couple may opt out of the press photocall and instead, issue the first image of their newborn on their new Instagram account.

The Queen’s former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, also thinks that the Sussexes may decide to skip the post-birth media call.

That is entirely up to them and given the amount of bad press that Meghan has been having recently, Harry might say ‘deal with it, we’ll do it our way,” he toldYahoo UK‘s ‘The Royal Box’.

“But we won’t know until nearer the time, they will decide how they want to do it.”

Home birth is a possibility

Friends of Meghan have reportedly revealed she will be following in the Queen’s footsteps when it comes to where she will give birth.

Sources have told the Daily Mail that Meghan will be having a midwife-led birth at Frogmore Cottage, the couple’s new home in Windsor.

“It is her favoured choice,” the source told publication. “But it obviously depends on how things are nearer the time.”

The Queen was born at the home of her grandparents in Mayfair and gave birth to each of her four children at either Buckingham Palace or Clarence House.
