Harry and Meghan's lack of baby news an 'unprecedented slap in the face'

A royal commentator has called out Prince Harry and Meghan’s private birth plan as an “unprecedented slap in the face” to the public.

The shock dressing down came from royal expert Carole Malone, who said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should instead be focusing on giving back to the millions who really “care” about the royal birth, The Sun reports.

“Someone needs to explain to me how a statement announcing the baby’s name, weight and gender, would invade their privacy or deny them precious family time,” Carole told Sky News.

“This is an unprecedented slap in the face for those legions of decent ordinary people who love the royal family and who think the royal birth as a national celebration.”

The 64-year-old’s outburst came following the announcement the royal couple would keep details of their baby’s arrival private until they “had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family”.

She said of course the couple are entitled to private time with Baby Sussex and no one was “expecting Meghan to parade her baby minutes after giving birth”.

But she slammed the fact there would be no photo call for the eager public and media.

“But how hard would it be to spend two miserly minutes outside the hospital waving and smiling at people who only want to wish them well,” she asked.

“Us Brits give so much to the royal family, and we also pay for the privilege of having them. Isn’t it time the Royals gave something back?”

Royal birth is being ‘stage-managed’

Carole is not the only one to have criticised the couple’s birth plan, just last week it was labelled ‘stage-managed’ and even ‘weird’.

Instead of joining in the celebrations, the The Loose Women panel criticised the pair’s move and argued it would drum up even more apparently unwanted interest in the upcoming birth.

“Who does that?” host Jane Moore asked about the attention-grabbing move, adding: “That’s such a weird thing to make an announcement that you’re not making an announcement.”

“I get that she doesn’t want to come on the hospital steps with the newborn baby and that she wants a home birth, but if you’re going to have a baby at home, what difference does it make if you just tell people that you’ve had the baby?”

“If you’re trying to dissuade interest – I think this creates it,” co-host Nadia Sawalha added.

“They wanted us to be invested in their love story, and we are, and part of that story is their baby being born.”
