Ron Hale, “General Hospital” and “Ryan's Hope ”actor, dies at 78
The Daytime Emmy-nominated actor is best known for playing Dr. Roger Coleridge in "Ryan's Hope" and Mike Corbin on "General Hospital."
Ron Hale, a Daytime Emmy-nominated actor known for his roles on General Hospital and Ryan’s Hope, has died. He was 78.
Hale died Aug. 27 in St. George, S.C., according to an obituary shared by a local funeral home. A cause of death was not listed.
“The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron Hale’s passing,” the series said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. “We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace.”

Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1946, Hale attended Furman University and made his television debut in a 1968 episode of N.Y.P.D. He would go on to appear on series like Search for Tomorrow and Love Is a Many Splendored Thing before landing the role of Dr. Roger Coleridge on the soap opera Ryan’s Hope in 1975.
Hale would go on to appear in over 900 episodes of the popular ABC series — and receive two Daytime Emmy nominations for his performance in 1979 and 1980 — until it came to a close in 1989.
But Ryan’s Hope wasn’t Hale’s only successful sudser. He also starred as Mike Corbin, the father of the unpredictable mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), from 1995 until 2010. His character also appeared in the series’ spinoff, Port Charles.
In addition to his television credits, Hale also appeared in films including Sunstorm, The Ghost and the Whale, and the Academy Award-winning All the President’s Men.
He is survived by his his nieces and nephews, Lori Brown, Max Brabham, Erin Wilson, and Marc Brown.
