Romy and Michele are officially back to serve up another businesswoman special.

Mira Sorvino confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to her and Lisa Kudrow's 1997 comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is officially in the works at 20th Century Studios, per a report from The Hollywood Reporter giving new details.

Robin Schiff, who wrote the original film, is back to write the screenplay for the new movie, which will be directed by Tim Federle (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series). Filming is expected to start in June, with Los Angeles–area locations being considered, per THR.

Sharing the news on Instagram Wednesday, Sorvino — who will return as Romy White alongside Kudrow's Michele Weinberger, with both women also serving as executive producers — wrote, "We’re pretty excited about it."

"Michele, this is definitely the cutest we’ve ever looked!" Sorvino, 57, added in a comment, quoting one of the original movie's memorable lines.

While Sorvino didn't confirm who from the first Romy and Michele's cast might have signed on for the sequel, she did tag several of her former costars aside from Kudrow, including Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim, Elaine Hendrix, Kristin Bauer and Mia Cottet, as well as Schiff and Federle, 44.

During a November 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Sorvino teased that the project was "so close to being green-lit," and revealed that a director had even been hired.

"They've done his deal, they've done Lisa [Kudrow] and my deals as executive producers," the Academy Award winner revealed. "Robin has written multiple drafts of an amazing funny script, which checks all the boxes for all the fans."

"And they're just going back and forth, tweaking things here and there, and [there are] rumors of shooting it second quarter next year," Sorvino added, confirming that she and Kudrow, 61, would also reprise their roles.

In February 2023, Cumming, 60, told PEOPLE he would be "totally game" to reprise his role as nerd-turned-billionaire Sandy Frink in a sequel, if the opportunity were to come up.

"I thought it was great. I mean, there's been speculation about it and rumors about it having a sequel for the last 25 years, I have to say," said the Traitors host. "But yeah, totally. I'd be absolutely game."
