Roman, between courses, admitted to feeling the pressures of hosting duties.
“I’m hoping that people are enjoying themselves. It’s funny, I see seats are vacant. I get sensitive, but I feel like the vibe is good and food is good and we have a wonderful, diverse group of people,” the filmmaker said.
When approached by the brand to curate an evening, it was a no-brainer for Coppola.
“It’s one of my secrets that I enjoy creating an evening, and I’ve done it before. We do this Valentine’s party for my company [every year]. The idea of making an event or an evening that has ingredients I love is fun,” he said. “My old friend, Alessandro from Rome, came to DJ, there was an organist who played [during cocktails] who is an old friend, and I brought my wine from our family vineyard. So in short, it was just an easy invitation to accept, to make an evening and invite friends you like and create something kind of fun.”
While in New York, Coppola likes to play the favorites, listing Katz’s Deli, Bemelmans Bar, the Grand Central Oyster Bar and Barney Greengrass as his go-to’s.
“I’m staying on the Upper East Side, which is fun for me. I went to NYU years ago and so to me the Upper East Side, I enjoy it. I like old-fashioned places,” he said. “That’s kind of my thing to enjoy classic stuff in a place that has history.”
