Rod Stewart Was Once Served Divorce Papers by Sitcom Star

While Rod Stewart is known as a successful British singer in a happy marriage with his current wife, Penny Lancaster, years ago, he had a surprising run-in with a young man who would go on to be a huge sitcom star, David Schwimmer, when he was served divorce papers from his first wife.

In a new interview with Stephen Colbert, Schwimmer took a trip down memory lane to when he was working as a waiter and doing other part-time jobs during his college years, including serving court papers to unsuspecting people.

Schwimmer told the story of how he worked as a process server for his mother the summer after his freshman year of college, saying, "My mom was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers."

The Friends star then revealed the major celebrity to whom he served divorce papers during his short stint on the job, telling Colbert, "Once, oh man, thank goodness I've never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart. I don't even know if he knows. I don't think he knows."

Colbert joked that Schwimmer could potentially still meet Stewart again, saying, "You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime! Now he knows to punch you."

The timing of the story lines up with Stewart's split from his first wife, Alana Stewart. The two tied the knot in 1979 and had two kids, Kimberly and Sean. They officially divorced in 1984.

Stewart didn't get married again until 1990 to model Rachel Hunter. The two were together until 2006, with Stewart marrying his current wife in 2007.
