David Schwimmer just revealed that he once served Sir Rod Stewart with divorce papers as he opened up about his pre-fame jobs.
As you’re probably aware, 58-year-old David is now a hugely successful actor, with the star getting his big break when he was cast as Ross Geller in the hit sitcom Friends back in 1994.
But before that, David was a teenager in college looking for some extra cash when his mom, Arlene, said he could work for her.
During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, David explained: “One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work and my mom said: ‘Well, you can be a process server for me.’”
“My mom was a divorce lawyer,” he then clarified. “And I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers.”
David went on to admit that, at the time, he felt like “James Bond” because of how he would receive tips on where to find the people he needed to serve.
“So, at the time I was 18, I’m like James Bond!” the star said, unable to contain his laughter. “I’m not James Bond, [but] you’re tipped off as to where they might be.”
David then cautiously shared his ‘80s brush with fame, telling Stephen: “Once… Oh man, thank goodness I’ve never run into him since, but… I served Rod Stewart.”
“I don’t even know if he knows; I don’t think he knows,” David said, before adding: “He knows now!”
Stephen joked in response: “Change your locks, man. He’s vengeful. You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime and now he knows to punch you!”
David did not reveal who Rod, now 80, was divorcing at the time, however, the music icon split from his first wife, Alana Stewart, in 1984 — the same year that David turned 18.
Rod then married Rachel Hunter in 1990, who he was with until 2006. He has been married to his third wife, Penny Lancaster-Stewart, since 2007.
Reacting to a clip of David’s revelation on the chat show, many couldn’t help but think of his long-suffering Friends character’s reputation for divorces.
“Ross and divorces. Theme of his life lol,” one popular comment read, while another echoed: “how ironic.😆 divorce has always been a theme for him, i guess.”
And referencing one of Ross’s hilarious gags on the show, somebody else wrote: “So he is the real Divorce Force.”
While somebody else joked: “Would have been funnier if Colbert said, ‘guess who my next guest is.’”
