Rod Stewart Cancels 200th Las Vegas Residency Show Due to Strep Throat: 'I'm Desperately Sorry'

"I’m absolutely gutted," said the British singer, who assured fans he'll return to Las Vegas next year

Rod Stewart's health got in the way of a milestone performance.

Earlier this week, the British pop performer, 79, called off the 200th show of his 13-year residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, originally scheduled for Aug. 7.

In an Instagram post, the "All For Love" singer told fans he contracted strep throat and could not take the stage. “Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me,” he wrote. “My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Stewart added that he had “been looking forward to” the performance “for so long,” writing, “I’m absolutely gutted.”

The canceled show was originally intended to close out the star’s critically-acclaimed residency, billed as The Hits, which first hit Vegas in August 2011. Shortly before he announced the cancellation, however, Stewart took to Instagram to reveal the residency is “coming back for an encore” next year.

“Thankfully we’ll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there.💔” Stewart concluded his cancellation announcement post.

Earlier this week, the rockstar went out in Las Vegas to celebrate what was expected to be the end of his legendary 200-show run. Stewart made a surprise appearance at The Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails in The Cosmopolitan and treated attendees to an a cappella performance of several of his hits.

In an interview with The Sun last month, the singer said he's “going to be enjoying myself for these last few years' as he nears 80.

"I’m aware my days are numbered, but I’ve got no fear," Stewart told the outlet, revealing that he still drinks after every show. "I am just enjoying the moment.”

The "Maggie May" singer will next take the stage on Aug. 9 in Stateline, Nev., to kick off his 2024 North American tour. Stewart will play several shows in Europe in December before returning stateside to resume his Las Vegas residency next year.
