Robin Roberts and Wife Amber Celebrate First Wedding Anniversary: 'Totally Worth the Late Night'
The 'Good Morning America' star and her longtime love Amber tied the knot in Connecticut last September after first meeting on a blind date in 2005
Robin Roberts and wife Amber Laign are celebrating a special milestone!
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the couple marked their first wedding anniversary — and they enjoyed a romantic dinner date in honor of the occasion. The Good Morning America co-anchor, 63, offered a glimpse of the cozy outdoor date setup in a clip posted on Instagram, showing a table for two decorated with candles and flowers in the middle of a garden patio area.
Roberts revealed in a voiceover that the anniversary dinner was orchestrated by a friend. "Since we never actually got to eat at our wedding, a lovely gift from a longtime friend, Pam [Guglielmino], and the chef from our wedding night," she said, exclaiming, "Wow!"

The camera zoomed in on a menu printed with the message, "Yes to dinner, always" and the couple's first names. Per the menu, Roberts and Laign enjoyed shrimp cocktail and an autumn salad as starters, followed by a main course of pan-seared salmon with lemon dill sauce, wild rice and haricot verts.
Dessert was a white chocolate strawberry bread pudding and wedding cake, slices of which the couple presumably saved for the occasion.
In the caption of the video post, Roberts wrote: "What a special time at home celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. Thanks to dear friend @pgoog and Chef Katrina from @farmingtongardensct for a memorable night! Forgive me if I’m a little bleary eyed tomorrow on @goodmorningamerica. Totally worth the late night.😘."
In a second Instagram post, the TV news veteran shared a photo of an anniversary card that appeared to embrace the tradition of gifting paper, as it playfully read, "Rock Paper Scissors" with the words "rock" and "scissors" struck out. The photo also included a candle printed with the message, "One year down forever to go," which Roberts repeated in the post's caption.
Roberts also marked her anniversary by sharing various wedding highlights on her Instagram Stories, including a clip of her nephew Jeremiah having an "epic" dance-off at the reception with GMA weekend co-anchor Whit Johnson.

Just days before their anniversary, Roberts and Laign — who tied the knot in Farmington, Conn., on Sept. 8 last year — celebrated another special occasion, Laign's 50th birthday. Roberts shared a festive photo on Instagram of her wife wearing a pink birthday sash and holding a crown-shaped wand, as she paid tribute to her.
"Please join me in wishing my sweet Amber a Happy 50th Birthday!!" she wrote. "She has brought so much joy to my world with her spirit and kindness…and this incredible, beautiful woman is the only spice I need and am blessed to have in my life.💕."

Back in July, Roberts opened up about how Laign — whom she met on a blind date in 2005 — taught her about “unlearning” toxic relationship patterns. She revealed on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast that she planned to break up with Laign one year into their relationship because “there [was] no drama.”
"I’d had dysfunctional relationships that I didn’t know were dysfunctional at the time,” Roberts explained on the podcast. “[Amber] had already told me, ‘I’m not going to do one of those make up, break up things,’ so it’s about a year in… and [at that point] in my mind I was like, ‘I’m out of here,' because there's no drama."
She continued, "I’m used to conflict and I was equating conflict with love. If [the relationship] was easygoing, then it must not be sexy, it must not be fun. The relationship was really good but this was my thinking.”
As Roberts prepared to recite her breakup speech while the pair was sitting together at a bar, the journalist was "stunned" when Laign said to her, “Robin I know the relationship you had before. If that is what you want, knock yourself out.”

“I thought she would be like ‘You must stay with me’ and she did just the opposite with such confidence [and said], ‘I know what you had and I know what you have now and if that’s what you want…’ and I didn’t go through with it," Roberts said of the planned breakup, noting that she is “so grateful” to Laign for helping her rethink what she once knew about relationships.
“Sometimes you have to unlearn and I had to," she added. “You have to really dig deep and go, ‘Is that what we think is love?’ No,’ but at the time we do.”
