Mariska Hargitay Fans in Shock as 'Law & Order: SVU' Star Makes Unexpected Move After Election

Mariska Hargitay has made a bold move that's raising eyebrows among her fans.

Following the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, where Republican candidate Donald Trump came out victorious over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star has seemingly deactivated her social media accounts.

Supporters immediately noticed the change on Wednesday night, Nov. 6, as Hargitay's Instagram account was no longer accessible, returning an error message at the URL that @therealmariskahargitay previously occupied. "Sorry, this page isn't available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed," it now reads.

The longtime actress, 60, has explicitly communicated her support for Harris in the past, endorsing the current vice president with a video upload in October.

“I’m Mariska, and if you know me, you know that I’ve spent my life fighting for girls and for women—both onscreen and off,” she said in the clip at the time.

“You might not be surprised to hear that I like strong leaders who prioritize safety, accountability and justice,” the mom of three continued. “With so much on the line, I trust Kamala to uphold the law and defend our freedoms. On November 5, Kamala has my vote.”

As the election results were announced, with Harris officially conceding to Trump on Wednesday, Hargitay's sudden move could have potentially been in an attempt to protect her peace and mental health amid a chaotic time. Sharing platforms have become increasingly difficult to navigate and volatile due to supporters on both sides taking to the internet with their unfiltered opinions on the political landscape.

Whether that or another unknown personal reason, the unannounced removal sparked concern, as fans wondered what happened to Hargitay's social media presence.

"Whoever made American’s sweetheart Mariska Hargitay deactivate her instagram, I wish you nothing but the worst disrespectfully," one person vented via an X post.

Another X user wrote, "I will miss Mariska Hargitay on Instagram. I hope she comes back next year. I don’t blame her, but f y’all for making her do this."

Someone else attempted to reason, responding, "All these celebrities that decided to campaign for a candidate exposed themselves to feedback good or bad, welcome to the reality of social media and being an advocate," in part.
