Focus Features is producing and financing. Both Eggers and Sjón will produce alongside Focus Features, with Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus executive producing.
It’s clear from the title of the movie, what Eggers’ latest will be about.
To date, Eggers and Focus have teamed on all his movies, including the A24-released The Witch and The Lighthouse which the Uni specialty label handled international distribution on through Universal International.
Nosferatu has made $156.3M worldwide to date. The movie is heading into its eight weekend at the box office. The movie dropped on PVOD yesterday repping a 27-day theatrical window to the standard 18-day window which Focus has been following for its pics. Universal’s math on their movies has shown that movies’ theatrical box office doesn’t slow down greatly when arriving on PVOD. Uni’s highest grossing movie on PVOD has been Wicked which cleared more than $70M in its first week.
Nosferatu easily became Eggers’ highest grossing movie out of the gate with a $21.6M 3-day opening and 5-day of $40.8M, ahead of his previous movie, The Northman, which was co-financed between Focus and New Regency, debuting to $12.2M domestic and earning $34.2M U.S./Canada and $69.6M worldwide.
Nosferatu is up for five BAFTA awards including Best Cinematography, Costume Design, Hair & Make-Up, Original Score and Production Design.
