Rob Gronkowski Shares His Signature Buffalo-Inspired Guacamole Recipe Just in Time for the Super Bowl (Exclusive)
Rob Gronkowski is a man of many talents.
Not only is he a four-time Super Bowl champion, successful NFL analyst and entrepreneur, but he's also an avocado enthusiast and guacamole connoisseur—and now, he's sharing his signature Buffalo-inspired "Gronkamole" recipe exclusively with Parade.
"I want to get guac on every game day table this football season because guacamole is a staple to have," Gronkowski, who recently partnered with Avocados From Mexico ahead of Super Bowl LIX, tells Parade of his favorite game-day snack. "I love avocados. I put avocados next to my eggs. I put avocados on my sandwich. Avocados go with my dinner. So I'm a big fan."
Gronkowski, 35, goes on to tell Parade that his "unique" recipe—which includes shredded chicken, Buffalo sauce, blue cheese and more—was inspired by his family upbringing near Buffalo, New York.
"Throwing all that into the guacamole, you got to kind of make it different and unique from everyone else's guacamole [recipes]," he continues. "So I just felt like that was the standard to do it and to catch people's eyes and to try it out. It's delicious. It's good and it's tasty, especially if you're from Buffalo and if you love Buffalo wings, you're going to love this guacamole."
As for the perfect chips to pair with his guacamole recipe, Gronkowski tells Parade that a "thin and crispy situation" won't cut it.
"Tostitos Scoops," he declares when asked about his tortilla chip preference. "It just makes it easy to scoop. It doesn't break and you always get a nice bite, and it's always delicious."
And although Gronkowski's guacamole recipe errs on the unconventional side, there's one common ingredient he says he would never add to his signature dish—or any guac recipe, for that matter.
"A jalapeño," he enthusiastically tells Parade. "You don't want to throw someone with their head exploding and smoke coming out of their ears and tricking them and not telling them. So jalapeños are no go for me."
Despite his "no jalapeño" policy for guacamole, Gronkowski tells Parade that he's not too picky when it comes to other must-have game day bites.
"The Gronkamole, obviously that's number one. Then we'll go with my mom's Buffalo chicken wing dip. You can't beat that. That's kind of what inspired actually the guacamole," he says. "What else do you need? I like a sampler platter, a charcuterie board with the salami, cheese and nuts. That's always my favorite as well. That's always good stuff. So, if you got those three things, you're good in my book."
And while Gronkowski won't be playing in this year's Super Bowl matchup, the former NFL tight end holds the memories of his four championship wins close to his heart, including the time he hopped on stage with his "favorite performer" Flo Rida after the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks in 2014.
"I was singing, 'Apple, bottom jeans, boots with the fur,'" he recalls to Parade while rapping the hit song. "So that was it. [My favorite] memory right there."
In addition to sharing his guacamole recipe courtesy of Avocados From Mexico, Gronkowski and the produce company are also giving away limited edition insulated guacamole fanny packs, complete with multiple compartments to store chips, seasonings and other guac needs.
Fans can also head to Avocados From Mexico's site to chat with Gronkowski on the Guac Line, where they can talk to an AI version of the former NFL star, and can tune into YouTube on Wednesday, Jan. 29, to see how many avocados Gronkowski can house in one sitting ("around 20," he tells Parade). He will also be singing karaoke, playing guac pong and more.
"It's just me being absolutely silly," he says. "It's a lot of cool things like that and it's fun. It's something for all ages, for kids. If you have a family, sit back, relax, get some guacamole in your life and dip some chips and just watch it. It's going to be cool."
